Thanks for publishing this! I just ordered one of the last replacements based on your video, since there was really no feedback in the KLOV thread.
@zachgutzmer11722 ай бұрын
It is odd that there is practically zero feedback on this product that has been out for a couple years. You saw the reply on KLOV that I received when I raised these issues. I'm wondering if the other people that purchased a PCB actually built it or if they just shelved it as a future project. Being supplied an incorrect BOM with no alternative parts is extremely bush league if the seller had already successfully built the board.

Cheese they used for sound effects on a chip, would o be able to scroll through all of the various sounds on this eprom too? BTW are "Skeeball Too" eproms hard to find? I had this whole box and power supply from a CEC version of Skeeball too bit before o realized the sound was stored on eproms I trashed it! Aggh!

Came across your video and wondered if you could give me some insight as I am having issues with my SkeeBall game. I have a SBC-1-B-SP31A board. When I plug it in the fan will start, but no lights, sound, display, or ball button will work. It was working fine before, but all of a sudden had this issue. I tried unplugging and re-plugging and reviewing to see if there was any loose wires. None that I could see. My game is all original incandescence bulbs. I did not take the metal box apart to see the entire PCB. Any thoughts on what to look for or idea what is causing this?
@zachgutzmer117211 ай бұрын
If the 120v fan works you know you have AC power coming in. Your DC power supply section might not be working causing your issues, there is fuse on the main board that could be blown if a component shorted. You need to confirm you have good power before any other trouble shooting measures. After that is known good, you need to look at the ram chip and the game rom.
@JunkMail-s7h11 ай бұрын

Zach I've seen a number of your videos re: skee ball machines. Are you able to reprogram the ROM on a classic skee ball? I have a model H that seems not to have the correct version of the firmware to support the 100 point holes but I understand that there is a version that does. That version is publicly available but beyond my ability to upload to my CPU (which is working great, just without this capability). Thanks for any assistance that you may be able to provide

Zach we have had a 1991 Skee Ball machine for several years now. We have the dip switches set for free games and no tickets. It has worked great for the last several years but recently when power is turned on the 4 lights for free game, game over and winner illuminate but the ball count display and the scoring display do not light. Nothing happens when you hit the game start button. Any suggestions.
@zachgutzmer11722 жыл бұрын
Jim - it sounds like your controller is no longer booting up. Check the two fuses (near the power cord should be good if the lights are on, and there is another on the circuit board by the fan) and make sure the controller is making good power (5v and 12 volts)
@jimschepers7862 жыл бұрын
Thanks Zach. it looks like we have a model H. I checked the fuses and they look to be good. Looks like i have 18v on the 15v test point and 13.2v at the 13v test points. 6v on the speaker connector. Could not find 5v test spots marked on the board. i have someone that may take a look this week. Appreciate your insight.

On the LED versions you need that extra "white" wire because, the chip is a UCN5833A Serial-Input Latch Driver. Lookup the datasheet for the chip. If you trace it out on your display that white wire goes to PIN 4 which is the "Strobe" pin, this has to be set high after the end of the clock signal for 100 nano-seconds. I learned this when I was building an Arduino based controller. It will control the mini-bulb version and also the LED version but without that white wire the decimal and the number glitch like you showed. I learned from your video using pin 6 on the 4-player display allows you to use the LED display, very cool. Hit me up would love to chat about these.

@@zachgutzmer1172that’s the actual myriad version? The AVGN was right, they made absolutely no changes. It makes me question why that cart is so much more valuable to begin with.
@zachgutzmer11727 ай бұрын
@@TheCanaaniteUnionist Correct, the myriad version. I made this quick video to show that the cart was working when I sold it on ebay a decade ago. You could clearly see the original Caltron label underneath the very plain Myriad sticker, and the new sticker wasn't quite big enough to cover the original. I didn't show the cart in the video and people seeing this video now think it was a fake cart *eyeroll*. It is NOT the typical "look at my cool stuff" video that is more common now - I was just demonstrating the game worked.

Mark - if no lights are working, i would first check the 5amp fuse for the lights. Its the bottom one in the holder. Remove it and meter it for continuity to check if its good. Also make sure the fuse clips aren't blown out and they can firmly grip the fuse. Do that and report back.
@whoknewtoo5 жыл бұрын
@@zachgutzmer1172 Thanks for getting back to me. The fuse and block look good, but I think the problem is that I am missing the top fuse. The tilt light does work right now. But the scoring, lights and bells do not. Can you confirm that I need a 115 V 5 amp fuse there? Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated!
@benbe23835 жыл бұрын
@@whoknewtoo Yep. Thats the right value fuse. According to the schematic, the tilt and scoring lights are on the same fuse. The scoring and bells are on another. Once you add the fuse you are missing, check it again. I assume the fuse you are missing is for the scoring and bells and none of the lights will work without power going to the scoring disk
@whoknewtoo5 жыл бұрын
Ok. All four fuses are good. I can manually touch the solenoids for scores, bells and lit scores. (at least most of them light), but the actually play field does not respond with the nickel or if I manually try the levers from behind.
