I was supposed to receive a David Austin rose but received a Rose Ducher by accident. I am in zone 5b and I read that the Ducher should be grown in zones 7 to 9 Can I save her thru our winter or is it a lost cause?

Great question. Here are some suggestions- 1) take a cutting and grow it through the Winter and start over next Spring (you need to see if Ducher is a patented protect plant), 2) grow it in a pot and, over the years, put in larger and larger pots (bring in during Winter) or 3) when it dies back put a lot of mulch, cover with a cloth during freezing temps and maybe finding some way to put a heat source under the cloth. I grow mine is a container and don't worry about it.

@@thepracticinggardenerwilli4072 Thank you so much for getting back to me!!! I am new to growing roses. I want to make sure I understand. I should try to prorogate from a cutting. Also, to keep it warm during the winter. Can I use incandescent Christmas lights?

@@EverFlo777 Here are a couple of answers for you.1) Growing Ducher Rose in Zone 5b Seasonal Growth Planting Time: Plant the Ducher rose in the spring after the last frost to give it the best chance to establish before winter. Container Growing: Consider growing the rose in a container that can be moved indoors or to a sheltered location during the colder months. Winter Protection Mulching: Apply a thick layer of mulch around the base of the rose to insulate the roots from cold temperatures. Covering: Use burlap or a rose cone to cover the plant during the harshest winter months to protect it from frost and wind damage. General Care Sunlight: Ensure the rose receives at least 6 hours of sunlight daily, especially in the warmer months. Soil: Use well-drained soil with organic matter to improve drainage, especially important in clay soil conditions. Watering: Water regularly, ensuring the soil is moist but not waterlogged. Reduce watering as temperatures drop in the fall. Monitoring Check for Frost Damage: In early spring, monitor the plant for any frost damage and prune back any affected areas. Fertilization: Feed the rose with a balanced fertilizer in the spring and again in mid-summer to encourage healthy growth and blooms. By providing the Ducher rose with the appropriate care and protection, you may be able to enjoy its blooms even in the cooler climate of zone 5b during the warmer months.

@@EverFlo777 2.Grow it in a pot. Choosing the Right Pot Size: Select a large pot with a diameter of at least 18-24 inches to provide ample space for root growth. Material: Choose a durable material like terracotta, ceramic, or a high-quality plastic. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging. Potting Mix Soil: Use a high-quality potting mix designed for roses or a mix of garden soil, compost, and perlite for good drainage. Amendments: Add organic matter to improve soil fertility and structure. Planting Depth: Plant the Ducher rose at the same depth it was growing in its nursery pot. Spacing: Leave some space between the top of the soil and the rim of the pot to allow for watering. Care and Maintenance Watering: Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Check the moisture level by sticking your finger about an inch into the soil. Fertilizing: Feed the rose with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer formulated for roses in the spring and mid-summer. Pruning: Prune dead or damaged branches and shape the plant as needed to maintain its form and encourage healthy growth. Seasonal Considerations Sunlight: Ensure the pot receives at least 6 hours of sunlight daily. You can move the pot to follow the sun if needed. Winter Protection: In cooler climates, move the pot to a sheltered location such as an unheated garage, shed, or basement during the winter months. Alternatively, you can insulate the pot with bubble wrap or burlap and place it in a protected outdoor spot. Temperature: Protect the rose from extreme temperature fluctuations by avoiding direct exposure to freezing winds or harsh sun in the hottest part of summer.

@@thepracticinggardenerwilli4072 You are the best ❤. I planned on digging her up and throwing her in the garbage bin once I realized they sent me the wrong rose. I identified her first bloom on an app. but while researching a Rosa Ducher, I wasn't sure if she was worth the effort since her zone preference is 7-9.. With your help you just saved a rose plant from her demise. :-) Thank you for all your help.

At 47:36, it should be perlite, not peat moss.

Very informative but needs to be updated. Colorado now allows up to 110 gallons of collection.

Better to pour boiling water on your seed mix medium. Kills viruses...from a fellow Master Gardener. I learned that on KZbin. Gary Pilarchik channel.

Good presentation but be prepared, yellow sticky traps also catch Ladybugs. Interesting that he passes out Osmocote at presentation for Organics.
