They're all kind of the same one dimensional character and are just there to complement Wolverine's character development. If these washed up losers who've seemingly lost everything can still fight and die for something, then so can he. X-23 could've had more than one dialogue scene to flesh her out as a foil, though.

25:15 Besides the obvious exhibitionism, it's provocation. He is a sex addict and wants other people to join him in "debauchery". A sex dirtbag. I was listening to a podcast of "reactionary" commentators from England and they were discussing the painter Francis Bacon. He was of the post-WW2 generation and , going from the commentary from the podcast, had a knack for serving a little extra alcohol to his guests. Guess to make them lose their inhibitions. Louis likely is on the same ballpark. Sex addict that is always chasing the latest high. He thought that now that he had made it to the "Big City", away from the prudes and now he can jerk off, drink alcohol and call hookers anytime he wanted to. As a comic he had a life on the road, spending hours driving and living in hotel rooms likely watching hours and hours of the porn channels. Giving birth to the anomie. I can think of another comic that could get in trouble anytime. But his fetish is ... special and few would thread there.

I have to take small issue with the critique of the insertion of the”Strange Love” segment to the soundtrack: It was sappy, syrupy, and ridiculously mawkish-perfect for Lust for a Vampire.

I love the Hammer films but I feel like they had started to run out of steam by this point. There were a few gems left to come but it was mostly downhill from this period on. Amicus were producing much better and memorable films around the same time (in my opinion) . Hope you guys enjoy your next return to Hammerland a lot more.

Good point about showing how other regions, etc reacted to the invasion. Day one was over all too quickly, so it's not really Day one, is it? I understand that we're living through our heroine's eyes. But her being knocked out, albeit plausible that such a thing should happen, was a creative cheat.

What a disappointment this review is. So much wrong with it. Firstly, before you pontificate, check your history. Vampires were always content in light until the 20th century when the film Nosferatu was released. It is a modern myth. Secondly check the pronunciation of the name of the main actress before recording it wrongly & disrespectfully . .And how can you pompously state a view when you admit you were distracted throughout, even possibly missing the final half hour. I would like to point out the stunning cinematography, shown up beautifully in the more recent release of the BluRay , the superb British actors universally employed,( there are actually no poor performances) & the light hearted & fun feel to the whole movie; if you like, a Disneyfied take on The Karnstein story. A shameful review in my opinion.

Hi, Judy! 100% understand that this movie has its fans, and happy to hear that you are one of them. Apologies for the apparent mispronunciation of Yutte Stensgaard's name - that is how Bruce G. Hallenbeck says it on the commentary, so I was simply following suit. Hopefully you'll enjoy some of our other appreciations of Hammer fare in the other shows, because we really do love this stuff!

Very glad I happened upon your discussion on this film! My favorite film (along with 2049) I saw the film when I was 15, blew my mind! Loved it! Was my fist dvd purchase and then my first blu-ray! So it's my opinion that Deckard is human! The original book he's human, the two screenplays he's human, and despite the ambiguous and more overt comments by Scott...the story works so much better with him as a human. So in my Bladerunner world he's human! Works for me and I'm sticking with it lol Thanks for the discussion!!! - The animals were extinct (or extremely rare) and illustrate the loss due to ecological collapse. - The photos are from Rachael's (used by Tyrell to reinforce their implanted memories) They're not Deckard's pictures. And he's drinking and musing...which could naturally lead to his "dream sequence) btw - Might be of interest: "In the documentary Dangerous Days: Making Blade Runner, Hauer, director Ridley Scott, and screenwriter David Peoples confirm that Hauer significantly modified the speech. In his autobiography, Hauer said he merely cut the original scripted speech by several lines, adding only, "All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain". One earlier version in Peoples' draft screenplays was: I've known adventures, seen places you people will never see, I've been Offworld and back… frontiers! I've stood on the back deck of a blinker bound for the Plutition Camps with sweat in my eyes watching stars fight on the shoulder of Orion... I've felt wind in my hair, riding test boats off the black galaxies and seen an attack fleet burn like a match and disappear. I've seen it, felt it...![ And, the original script, before Hauer's rewrite, was: I've seen things... seen things you little people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion bright as magnesium... I rode on the back decks of a blinker and watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments... they'll be gone. Hauer described this as "opera talk" and "hi-tech speech" with no bearing on the rest of the film, so he "put a knife in it" the night before filming, without Scott's knowledge. After filming the scene with Hauer's version, crew-members applauded, with some even in tears. In an interview with Dan Jolin, Hauer said that these final lines showed that Batty wanted to "make his mark on existence ... the replicant in the final scene, by dying, shows Deckard what a real man is made of"." - wikipedia Again (imo) pointing to Deckard being human. Also in 2049 he has aged. It's very apparent 😉

This story screams remake The novel by Matheson is a classic. The important P.G. rating or G.P. rating to get the kids in kind of toned down the scares stated in the novel. As it stands the film in okay. Specially in set, photography, acting, directing dept. Loads of atmosphere. The climax with R.M. screaming in the wind did nothing for me, kind of a anticlimactic choice. However it was interesting seeing good old Michael Gough as Balasko's corpse.

I had to turn this off halfway through because I just got sick of Jeff being all holier-than-thou and talking over Cati the whole time. This video draws an interesting parallel to the movie it discusses in that we spend entirely too much time on one man's point of view and are given very little payoff for it.

As a big fan of this film, I appreciated AC's comments, but honestly found Ian's comments to be very juvenile (typical of this younger generation of fans addicted to the drivel of "horror" that is released on the big screen these days). The vast majority of Modern "horror" films lack any atmosphere and plot and seemingly only exist to shock and thrill audiences to make a quick profit.

One part where you can see a change of heart, is where Jeff Gerber has a difference with his boss, over his not wanting to write exploitative insurance policies. This causes him to have a change of heart, since his interacting with the black community as an insurance agent, gives him some insight into their lives.

Thanks, Peti! I’ll have to look into King. I understand why people are scared of AI’s possibilities, but unless it actually removes creative people’s ability to create (like chopping off our hands/brains) there will always be a place for artistic expression. Yes, it might reduce the ability of some to make a living making certain kinds of art, but it will also, I hope, open up whole new fields of endeavor and possibilities not yet imagined (at the dawn of computer animation, who could have predicted that there would someday be hundreds of new jobs being done across continents, with the ability to get real-time feedback/changes and year-over-year innovation?). This Wednesday’s livestream will be about GODZILLA MINUS ONE, a movie made for a fraction of American blockbusters, and which won the Special Effects Oscar-something only made possible by a small team of dedicated artists who didn’t let anyone tell them what they couldn’t do. Thanks again, for your comment AND most generous donation. Hope to “see” you soon!

Really interesting conversation. I agree that the answer for theaters is to get more into showing sports events etc. Oh, on the trailer spoilers discussion, if you watch the classic trailers for the old Hammer movies, they are FILLED with spoilers. They basically show a condensed version of the movie. One final thought - I haven't gone to a movie theater since my son was born and I can't see myself going back until he's old enough to go. I'd like him to have the experience, mostly based on my own childhood nostalgia. It's possible that the movie theater won't mean much to him - or most kids in the coming years.

Thanks, Patrick! I’m guilty of romanticizing trailers of the past-probably because there were, as I remember, not as many that gave away all the good twists, gags, and (ugh) story points. I’ve gotten into the habit of turning off long trailers for movies that I really want to see, to preserve at least some of the mystery. And I hear ya about waiting to go to the movies until your son is older (congratulations on fatherhood, btw, there truly is nothing like it). It’s a special experience that you can give your boy, if you do like my folks did: make it an event and pick a (hopefully) great movie. Heck, he might be old enough for STAR WARS to be his first big-screen experience, with the big 50th anniversary only a few years away (not knowing how old he is, of course, your mileage may vary). Whatever happens, I hope you both have a great, memorable time!

Terrific discussion, Ian, and I love this panel. I still love the first two Mad Max movies from years ago. I think I enjoyed Fury Road on a technical level when I saw it, but I felt it was so removed from the earlier films and I can't imagine why this prequel was endorsed. The first Mad Max is a great Aussie revenge flick that is more grounded because it's not in this overly stylized and rather dry universe. I just feel so uninspired by this. Haven't been to the cinema yet in 2024 and this was not going to do it.

So you see Butkiss might believe women should be pregnant making a home but I believe a man should be indebted and inservitude working his ass off for his wifes' fake boobs, fake hair, fake lips, gawdy nails, indebt to his eyeballs for his home and car and whatever debt he takes on to increase his fake wealth. I believe men should be slaves to society so their wives can sit around drinking wine while they enjoy play dates, and send their children to universitys and pay for their education... so they can be frankly working citizens of this country. Look dude it goes both ways.... think what you think and I will think what I think. You want me as a woman staying home making babies.. okay.. I can entertain that..but it will cost you. You might already know this. But Vampire Circus was an incomplete film. Hammer pulled the plug on the film two 3rd's into production. The director had to assemble what footage he had into a coherent storyline. It was released as a second feature. I would love to have seen the directors original vision.
