Could you explain how you would use a layerTexture node to make the same thing in Arnold? Where would the displacement weight go?

Hi.. Quick Question. I am following the exact steps and tried exporting in exr. When I composite them in either nuke or photoshop, my image gets too over exposed as compared to the desired output. I even see small pixelations due to that over exposure. The colour is not the same. I have tried everything I could think off. Do not know what the problem is.. Can you help me out..?? Especially the linear dodge blending mode rips the whole image apart but the same thing done by you and other artist tutorials, they get awesome results but that is not the case with me.. I am just using diffuse and specular direct and indirect to learn for now..

Hi Matt, for a tutorial about hinges you can safely assume that people know about all the other basics that wasted a lot of time in your video. Its a good tutorial but someone who clicked to see 30 minutes of Hinges, aligning hinges, settings and attributes for hinges, different applications for hinges, at 3 minutes in (10% of the video) you made a pipe. My computer can boot up, load maya, and create a pipe in less time than that. I will watch and see if a hinge is made by 5 minutes in. Maybe 10, I will see if you made a hinge before 10 minutes is up.

Hi Jeff, sorry to disappoint, but you were not the audience for this video. I adjunct at Drexel University, and I made this for video for the introductory Maya class, which is for people who have likely never used Maya before. This video is something I occasionally use in just the second lesson, a point when when many first timers, don't even know making a pipe is an option, and they still struggle with the UI and navigating the attribute editor efficiently. This is meant to be more of an introduction to snapping, and practicing combining multiple objects. I move so slowly so they can hopefully follow along without constantly pausing, despite both of these hinges being able to be modeled in probably less than 3 minutes. This isn't meant to be a hinges deep dive, as the video description would imply, making hinges at all is more of an afterthought. Maybe if I teach animation II at some point, which centers around modeling and animating a robot, I'll do a hinges deep dive. I hope you may have found something helpful on my channel, but the videos are more for my students than anything, I just make them public because I figured others may find them useful. And the more people I help the better.

what materials did you use for the shade?
@matthewrotella8886
@matthewrotella8886 3 жыл бұрын
It's an aiStandardSurface shader. To make a quick workable shader I just replaced all of the values with the skin preset in the shader presets, then I gave it a transmission weight of 0.172, and tweaked the subsurface scatter color and radius to be more in line with that of a lampshade.

Hi Rony. I might one day. But when it comes to roto match move animation there isn't really that much to go over. Once you set up your image plane in Maya it's just about placing your rigged character in front of it and tracing the animation best you can. You can see some examples of it in my student reel from years ago: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5ymgmWaiZqoeq8 And if you need help with camera matching I do already have a tutorial for that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpOwdYiaad2Yqrs I know that's not exactly what your looking for but it's a start for building the skillset.

Thank you. I am a freelancer, and I occasionally adjunct at Drexel University teaching the introductory 3D modeling class. I'm happy I was able to help. I suppose I could try and set up a Nuke comp of what you are asking for with the building. But I make no promises since I don't know if I'll have the time. But as some general tips for making any comp believable, just remember that having at least 3 layers to your comp will help set it in the space. Try not to make it too pristine. Perfectly clean looking assets is an easy way to tell something is computer generated. Dust, dirt, and grit are your friends. And lastly try and have your effect appear as though it reacts with something that is in your live-action background plate. That interaction between layers will always help make it look believable.
