Playing Devil's advocate here: all the predictions of lithium demand assume a greatly increased uptake of EVs. I'm starting to suspect that the market is becoming saturated in the wealthy countries, and for people in poor countries EVs are already out of reach. A global economic slowdown/recession, which is possible, would limit lithium demand. (I have invested in several lithium, cobalt and nickel miners, on the basis of the predictions.)

The biggest risk is the outcome of DLE. To date there's no large scale DLE operation around the world and there's problems of scaling it up to larger output. I would say brine lithium in Canada would operate at a disadvantage to say California's Salton Sea brine operation where they use local geothermal. Berkshire's Energy group has done extensive testing on DLE (along side with their geothermal operation) and concluded the high levels of silica kept clogging up the filtration system. Neighbouring CTR (who have joint ventures with Stelantis & earlier with GM) claims they can remove the silica in their DLE technology. Yet 4 years into the operation and no one has been able to extract lithium out of the Salton Sea at scale. Perhaps 7 years ago Simbol saw the writing on the wall (for which Tesla back then offered to buy the company out). Extracting lithium via DLE is not easy, otherwise the big boys like ALB and SQM would be using it (they too have done extensive DLE testing over the years). In this game of mining, despite they're still a junior miner, $20M is only a drop in a bucket. Interest rates are high so doing an underwriting bond issue is less likely. Don't forget, spot lithium prices in China have crashed -50% from the peak of Nov 2023. If open market prices on lithium do not recover over the next year, you're going to see a lot of these lithium juniors going bust.
