Jazz Empowers

The mission of Jazz Empowers is empower youth to overcome education inequality and poverty through jazz education.

What We Do - We offer world class after school programs in low income communities where students learn about and play jazz in big band and combo settings, increase their performance in academic core subjects, and develop lifelong professional and leadership skill

Why We Do It - We believe that all children in low income communities have a right to achieve an education that that helps them compete in the global economy. This will drastically help decrease poverty rates in America and will have a great impact on strengthening our nation’s economy and social structure. We also believe that jazz is America’s most prized cultural contribution to the world, and it is imperative that our children have the opportunity to learn and experience that great tradition.

I am still a beginner at playing saxophone and this advice is very valuable to me cause I don't get enough time to practice. I really get discouraged due to this fact.

But if the exercise is in 4/4 please, for the students, don't play the exercise in 3/4! Give the note the full duration!

Thanks for your videos. As a 68 year old man who learned to play trombone over 50 years ago and was even a member of a Highschool Band who won second place in the Miss America Pageant Parade in the late 1960's. I stopped playing after highschool and haven't picked up one since then until a few days ago. Now I'm having to start all over. Surprisingly how much you forget! I don't remember much of anything, and I'm having to try and relearn my mouth/ lips to form to make a correct note. It's not as easy when you're 68, but I'll keep trying.
