I had a nether portal spawn at the end of a giant cliff recently. If I had just walked out the portal like normal, I would've fell very far right into lava. I had to turn around and break the netherack blocking the other side.

i literally cant think of a better spawn. the outside is at minimum a hundred block tunnel in any direction and you’re never gonna get ambushed when exiting portal

I had a similar issue in my singleplayerworld. The portal was an a mountain, so I spawned in the nether ceiling (at least it wasn't on the roof I guess). Did a bit of digging around and made a cobblestone bridge to a nearby wall and mined my way back down. Pain?? Yes. End of the world issue? No.

there is this really niche feature not many people know about in this game, but it does provide subtle hints, such as the first half of the games name being what the feature is called, and to unlock it you need to do what the second half describes, first you will need two sticks and three wood planks, you will also need this advanced block called a crafting table to make a pickaxe, then you can look at those blocks preventing you from escaping and hold down on left click with your wooden pickaxe selected to make the blocks go away and allow you to occupy that space
