I think he’s onto something. Maybe we attach one end to the board? Am I totally off base?
@powerlooper91214 сағат бұрын
When wings first came out, I thought this made sense. But I never got around to building one for myself, and I still love to kite - since I Power Loop my kites. The main reason kites have inflatable sections is to make the water relaunchable. That is never the problem with handheld wings. Same as windsurf sails.
@benn94584 сағат бұрын
So as demonstrated in the video this wing doesn't require using a leash? Do the black ribbons on the wing tips have a purpose? Any reason for the higher aspect ratio design compared to traditional inflatable wings?

Lots of potential here. The increased efficiency can change the whole market.

What is the reasoning behind the tell tales in the tips? Is this for analysis of vortices or is there another purpose?
@greg.ocallaghan11 сағат бұрын
I bet this could be made with self inflating channels like a foil kite to give it a more aerodynamically efficient shape and better dynamic stability. Love it.
@kitingincayman2 сағат бұрын
that takes two skins making it twice as bulky, this is designed to get you up and then go away.
@GregSKetterman11 сағат бұрын
I suspect the racers will be using a design similar to that soon.
@sebcam94985 сағат бұрын
For this you would need a real profile, with battens, and so on. This wing has got nothing to keep an efficient profile at speed. Like very early sails for windsurf. You know what happened…
@Bhaalint12 сағат бұрын
Also attaching the lower part of the wing to the board would greatly improve it... oh wait...

with the wind conditions in your area you can foil with an umbrella
@greg.ocallaghan11 сағат бұрын
This is more efficient (no need for thick radius LE's, so less drag), and a more rigid structure so way more low end power to get up on foil.

Great to see the innovation. I gotta a feeling we’ll all be riding rigid wings in the near future. Hopefully lower cost than pump up jobs and better durability as frames won’t stretch and distort over time

What's the point of making such a design?
@youdigsurf14 сағат бұрын
Isnt that obvious ? - easy setup no need to pump it - easier to make , cheaper ? - quicker to fold pack up - thin leading edge more upwind performance - easier to repair no bladder , no double dacron , only spi cloth - lighter
@michaelmoore-bk3ft11 сағат бұрын
And "oops i forgot my pump" "Why can i never get my wing back in the bag?" "I got another hole in the bladder and i cant find it"
Back to the initial concept. This looks exactly like the first test I saw of winging concept some 6 years ago. But now the foil are just better tuned.
@sebcam94985 сағат бұрын
Exactly. And for who did it, it was Flash Austin. Back to the root. But refreshing too!

wow. This is cool. He's headed in the opposite direction of the other wing brands with their $2500 laminate material wings. The price of wings has gotten out of control. Greg is once again creating a new style based on simplicity. He was the first to make the zero strut kite foiling kites which took years before the major brands understood the concept and followed.
