I like the idea that Flowey did this with every soul as they fell down. Encouraging them to make different choices and seeing how it would affect the timeline over and over again until he'd seen everything there is to see and allowed time to move forward until the next human falls

God. I really don't like this. Martlet was a fine character, but this doesn't make any sense with the lore of Undertale and i hate it.

@@thegreatchipman One: No one knew about Alphys' Determination experiments, not even Asgore knew that Alphys had isolated the power and used it. Two: Monsters injected with Determination weren't shown to gain any exceptional ability (as indicated by the amalgamates, who are still physically filled with Determination, but unable to be meaningful threats). Three: The existence of Flowey before the amalgamates doesn't make sense form a lore Perspective as he didn't wake up until after the Amalgamates were all already injected with Determination. Four: Snowdrake's Mother had to be injected with Determination before Flowey and Snowdrake is a teen, which means that at best, using UTY's timeline, Justice/Clover would have fallen into the underground a couple years back, which is an extraordinarily short time, given that monsters have been underground for millenia and only 7 humans had ever fallen prior to you. Five: if a single human SOUL was in the underground ripe for the taking, the strength of that SOUL would not matter, it would easily have been enough for Flowey to take down Toriel through betrayal, claim a monster and human SOUL and escape the Underground, thus destroying all of reality as we know it. Six: We know Flowey had no reason not to take Clover's SOUL immediately because he tries to do that to us, and he's intending on doing the same thing with Clover's as he was planning with ours. Seven: This fight in particular poorly justifies its existence by indicating that Martlet just grabbed the syringe from Alphys' lab, something that would not have gone unnoticed by Alphys (a known surveillance nut, who explicitly told her to guard the lab against anything like this), nor would it have escaped Asgore's notice (he had an eager desire to see the results of this.experimentation), nor would the syringe even exist at a point where Asgore wasn't already broken enough that he was ready to die rather than continue (said desperation being the reason why he was willing to experiment with this in the first place), nor would Martlet have any reason to believe anything important is in the syringes AND even if she DID have reason to believe there was something important held in syringes, she still wouldn't have reason to suspect that it's something that might make her more powerful. She literally just picked up a random preloaded syringe from a lab and injected herself with it for seemingly no reason, expecting this to happen, despite the usual outcome of that being immediate, extremely painful, slow death. Technically that's what happened here too. Hell, if Alphys didn't have the bodies on hand, she couldn't have even known what effects determination might have had on a monster. Even though Alphys' lab entries begin by detailing it as the power to defy fate and resist death that's unlikely to have actually been plastered on the walls at this point, as Flowey explicitly sets up the True Lab for you to visit (as we know from him manipulating Papyrus and the red flowey-face ones turning on after you meet Alphys). ALSO, Alphys was always incredibly paranoid about people in the lab according to canon, as she knew she was lying about a lot even before the Amalgamates (see Mettaton, The DT extractor being made from blueprints already in existence, etc). Also also, it's incredibly unlikely Martlet would have had any inkling of what to look for even if she somehow knew that the power had been isolated as the entries indicating it had been isolated didn't even express that it was going to be injected into monsters in the first place, meaning Martlet either A) Loaded the syringe with an unknown substance stored in some kind of machine B) Took a syringe without knowing at all what was in it or (the most likely option) C) Somehow found and read all of Alphys' notes and made a bizzare leap in logic to assume that Alphys stored the determination in syringes and that that would somehow make her stronger with no side-effects. And EVEN if we're giving UTY that bone, it still isn't enough to justify it because Martlet goes into the lab already knowing there's something she's going to steal in there from the cutscene which she could not know prior to reading Alphys' notes, AND she also doesn't call it Determination, just a 'serum' which doesn't fly if she read Alphys' notes at all. This implies that B is actually correct and she just stabs herself with it on the assumption that it's stuff that makes monsters stronger for... literally no reason. Eight: Ceroba is the only monster in UTY who should have any inkling of what that would do, and her understanding of that should be limited to "It immediately and completely killed Kanako" -- so EVEN if Martlet had somehow heard through the grapevine about what some kind of Serum is supposed to do there's *still* no reason for her to believe it will do anything other than instantly kill her. ALSO the entire Ketsukane family backstory *cannot* make sense given Asgore kept all the SOULs locked *in the barrier* until briefly (VERY briefly) sending them to Alphys, according to Undertale canon. There's also absolutely no way without a DT extractor (something invented by Gaster that's blueprints were left behind and found by Alphys in the lab as indicated in her entries, OR possibly designed by Alphys, though this is less likely as she said she followed blueprints rather than inventing them herself) for them to have gotten anything out of the Blue SOUL at all. So all in all in order for this fight to happen; Ceroba needs to have informed Martlet about the serum Martlet has to have remembered and believed her on this point Martlet then has to randomly decide to read Alphys' notes, make the abstract connection that Alphys extracting power from the souls is the same as the Serum's original intended effect and not the same as the one that instantly killed Kanako (or be misinformed by Ceroba). Martlet has to figure out that the power is being stored in a certain set of syringes (if it was one, she'd have instantly been caught) and decide to steal it. Alphys and Asgore both have to turn a blind eye to a dangerous isolated human substance going missing that previously killed a child instantly on exposure. Martlet has to willfully ignore every single warning sign tht this will make her fall down or be lied to by someone who knows better. No one must have ever questioned Kanako's sudden death such that Asgore would have found out why it happened and thus never have okayed the experiments in the first place. No one ever could have informed Alphys about what happened to Kanako either, despite her body supposedly being delivered to Alphys' lab. No one ever could have had any information about the Amalgamates coming into existence yet Flowey must exist before the Amalgamates (a canon violation in and of its own right, as the flower being injected happened after the other monsters). Martlet would have had to either KNOW the Amalgamates existed and still injected herself with something known to have no real power boosting effect other than to melt you OR have no reason to suspect Determination would have any positive effect whatsoever Martlet still decides to inject herself with it pretending she knows what she's doing. That's a whole lot of inexplicable on top of inexplicable. UTY is not Canon Compliant. Not even close.
