I am blown away because Spokane is only expected to grow 1,500 ish new residents a year. I was paying $1050 a month for a 2 bedroom apartment on the north side in 2019 to 2020 before we moved to Texas. I called around a year ago trying to find a new apartment in Spokane because I wanted to move back home. I was told around $1,500 a month for a 2 bedroom apartment. Something is seriously wrong with Spokane rental market and housing market because prices are ridiculous with this little bit of growth. The cost of apartment rentals are literally causing the homeless crisis in Spokane. My mom lives near Monroe street she is on section 8 but her rent is close to 900 to 1,000 a month . she is almost 70 years old in the smallest 1 bedroom apartment. Spokane is failing because it is no longer affordable.

Honestly people rent prices need to be super affordable. Build actual affordable apartments for low income people. Get people on some kind of government assistance. Build the new jail and keep people in jail longer. If you give housing to people then Spokane wouldn’t need to build massive homeless shelters. This is nuts. Spokane is my hometown. I am currently living in the Midwest because the cost of apartment is very affordable. This is simple people need income and affordable rent on a bus line. One of the suggestions I haven’t heard is a program that pays someone rent to have a roommate to keep people out of the homeless shelters.Spokane needs to consider tiny home communities or trailer parks for the homeless. Honestly Spokane needs family shelters with private rooms that maybe houses like 4 to 15 families per building . No one should be sleeping on the streets unless it is by choice or they are on drugs or severely mentally ill. Get people off the streets because this is nuts from a community that is very generous.

End all funding to homeless and they will leave! People are being sent here from as far as Florida because we have so many resources here. Take care of public safety for tax payers first!

I appreciate the man who spoke at 1:01 who identified himself as "justice for all" - I am a homeowner here in Spokane and my wife uses a cane, she has balance issues and sometimes needs to lie down. If she sits on the sidewalk she's apparently committing a misdemeanor crime. If she tries to lie down on a bench it has that hostile bar to prevent lying down.
