I think it’s really interesting to see the difference between the airglow and a softbox (with dif.) both directly aimed at a subject. This because that’s were I see the biggest difference, this is where I do prefer the airflow since it has the effect of a book light (nicer, more forgiving contrast and less harsh and sourcier) but isn’t much bigger then a regular softbox. If you have the space, time and manpower, then a regular booklight will give you more flexibilty and adjustablilty I think. But the airglow especially comes in handy on shoots where you dont have the luxury of time, space etc. Only thing that costs a little bit more time is filling it with air. Thanks and great video as always!

I saw the LunaBulbs at Profusion in Toronto, and liked them a lot. First time I got hands on. But to be honest, there seems to be a lot of missed opportunities for this. For starters, the 8 bulb box is huge. I get that the control box is built in there. but it's so heavy and unnecessarily large. Secondly, the remote and such kinda stink. So you need the box to control them. And you need crmx to control them. I know there is the bluetooth astera app i think? but I didn't get a chance to use it. For me, I would only want 4 of these. It would be awesome if astera made a stand alone female bulb control unit for programming them, so that you didn't need the 8 bulb box.
@meetthegaffer9 күн бұрын
Without having the opportunity to use them with any regularity until now, I thought the same thing, that it would be handy to have a socket that can be attached to the roving power station you get with the NYX kit. On the other hand, once you get into a groove with them I’m sure they will fit into your workflow as others have said. Tomorrow I’ll be using all the NYX and LUNA bulbs I have, so looking forward to getting in some reps😀 I’m not worrying about the size and weight of the box. They worked great today! I love the smaller size for more compact fixtures.

Hello Luke. Regarding the amount of lighting control apps on a film set. You're absolutely right, the number of ways to control light has exploded... and the learning curve is steep. On a normal day, I have at least. 3 apps running.. black-out, astera-next, sidus-link app. So I completely agree with you that there are bids "cleaned up" in the amount of controls. Maybe there is an episode there.. ? Anyway.. I've been using lunabulbs since August and must say they are here to stay in my world.. Thanks for your episodes, it's always good to hear other points of view, about equipment, in our "little world.." Cheers here from Denmark. Dose

Good to hear the Lunas are fitting in well. I’m looking forward to getting them into the regular workflow from here on out! My wife and I love coming across Danish shows. We watched the first 4 seasons of Sygeplejeskolen. Looking forward to finding seasons 5 & 6 when they make it to a streaming service near us. It’s not Game of Thrones, but more our speed😅

@@meetthegaffer Wow lovely lovely - didn´t know our little "drama light" show made it to the US. FYI the first 5 seasons of "Sygeplejeskolen" is shot on 100% location, seasons 6 and 7(we finished filming that last October ) is shot on stage. It turned out that our location was going to be rebuild as apartments and as you know it´s a hassle filming on a building site.. I have some pictures if you want to see the studio setup. Luna bulbs have made it a lot into seasons 6 and 7 see if you can spot them 😎. (I know , I might be banned , but just between us - I never watched Game of Thrones 🤭)

Hot takes are fun, but often lack perspective. We get used to Amazon prices for items churned out by large corporations that use labor at rates we would not be willing to receive, but we think nothing of talking smack about a DP with a side hustle that solves an issue many of us may have, providing that service with as thin a margin as possible given his North American context.
@brianhawkins20 күн бұрын
@@meetthegaffer Yes, your points about labor rates are valid, and of course it's great to have things made in America. However, I just don't see how many working-class filmmakers are going to be able to afford to spend that much on some padding. $30 would be a value. $50 would be a stretch. $140 is just unthinkable, I'm sorry to say.

Very nice!...also cool that the design que and compactness is like the Ad100..but why couldn't they make it at least a 100w power output as well?..only 60W for a Bi Color/RGB light?..would have been nicer as far as power if they made it to a 100w..lol how hard would have the design been to use the same LED components from the Ad100..inside this one?..lol
@meetthegaffer23 күн бұрын
I will say that the fan is not exactly whisper silent, so I imagine 100 watts would require a more robust fan and drain the battery faster. All design is a series of trade-offs.

@cagf201321 күн бұрын
@@LMNDZ513oh.. 100% a cooling issue. If you remove the power supply or battery adapter on this light it is very tiny area for a fan and heat sink. I have also found in my testing that a lower wattage LED around 60watts or so is quite ideal for maintaining a small LED chip which works much better with precise optics etc. Personally I like this design choice, it seems compact and efficient and will work with smaller batteries. Would still be great if they can make a more powerful version that takes the same accessories though, totally agree.

Developing and marketing tools that will fit the broader and niche markets we all work in is not easy. Sometimes you have to make products that are close to what people already know and use and every once in a while tack to the left or right and cut a new course and see if it leads to success. These companies are paying attention and good things are coming our way!
