**small car rant** haha I helped a friend with a 2015 Camaro RS manual convertible, upgrade the brake and clutch hydraulics (ZL1 brake master cylinder/fluid reservoir, separate clutch master cylinder/fluid reservoir, and Cadillac CTS-V front BBK). No stainless steel brake lines, since the car isn’t going to drag raced or track driven a lot. Any high quality, racing DOT 4 brake fluid is also highly recommended. For the engine, we stuck to 0w-30 engine oil, installed an oil catch can, and rigged up a custom engine oil cooler setup with parts from a Chevy Colorado. The manual gearbox ended up running GL-5 75w-110 for a thicker gear oil, and it sure takes harder, spirited driving a lot better than typical GL-5 75w-90. Tried 75w-140 in the gearbox and it was way too thick, especially when the trans/gearbox reached operating temps. Aside from that, swapped in a 5.5 gen (14-15) SS 1LE hood, with the factory hood vent; and the thing keeps the engine very cool. You do have to remove the water deflector tray under the hood vent, however. A compromise would be water and other things getting into the engine bay; but we usually stick a big towel under the hood vent in the hood, when getting machine car washes. For upgrading the factory 18” inch wheels, it was easy to find some 6th gen Camaro SS 20” inch wheels. People sometimes sell 2 or 3 wheels from a damaged/salvaged set, so I helped him find the bigger wheels from the staggered set; this allowed us to run a wide square wheel/tire setup. 275 wide tires all around also helped performance tremendously. Only thing left is the measly open diff…. It’s not exactly the greatest, but it does the job… No plans to turbocharge or supercharge the car, although tempting. It’s fine as an NA car and suspension has had some multi-point braces added on the chassis, as well as strut tower bar and sway bar upgrades. Stock shocks and struts were also ditched for some nice adjustable coilovers, with manually adjustable damper controllers. The exhaust was kept rather quiet, as we installed long tubes and high flow cats with an X-pipe; and we didn’t want it to sound like a raspy tin can of bees… The niché V6 pony car community gets enough hate as it is; more negative attention sucks. It’s tuned on HP Tuners, as handheld tuners got phased out recently. Car is actually doing rather well, and is going to be getting an upgraded clutch and flywheel kit sometime soon. All badges have been removed, and interior has had SS leather seats swapped in; so this confused some folks who hated, thinking my friend is trying to create a fake replica of an SS V8 model…

Thanks for the video. Very straight forward approach. Well done. I do have a question: I need to *remove* my rack to put on the passenger backrest. Is there any trick to getting the rubber toppers off? Thanks!
@tracktoys92692 ай бұрын
Not sure what you mean by "toppers", are you referring to the rubber strips covering the bolts to the rack? if so, they just pull off. getting them to slip back on is the tricky part. The other tricky part is getting that plastic cover behind the seat off to install the backrest. Most all backrests install under the cover. using the same bolt holes as the backrest.
@scotth19462 ай бұрын
@@tracktoys9269 Yes, the rubber strips. They seem to have a one-way connection. But thanks for the info. I may get some pliers in there and compress them a bit before pulling them up/out. They look like they may rip off if I just yank them. And yeah, thanks for the advice on removing the back plastic cover. I think you have a video on that so I'll take a look. Thank you much!!

Is this the same way the Hondaline backrest installs. I want to add a luggage rack later and don’t want the area for the luggage rack to be used for the backrest
@tracktoys92692 ай бұрын
Im not really sure how the honda accessory is installed, maybe in the same spot. But they both (Backrest/rack) use the same bolt holes under the plastic tabs under the cover in the back. The worst part is getting that cover off for the backrest, you dont have to remove it with the rack.

Im thinking of buy a v6 convert with a 6 speed manual for my mom. How reliable was this car? The one im looking at is 55k miles
@isnowyazn28 күн бұрын
Get a 2012-2015 if possible; the LFX V6 engine is a lot more reliable and has revisions over the LLT V6 engine (10-11 RS V6 models). Is she into sports/performance cars? If so, the RS V6 models aren’t exactly the greatest to be driven hard and abused; unlike the popular V8 models like the SS. The car is decent for what it is, and doesn’t need much else from the factory. Although, if you’re a car enthusiast, you’ll eventually figure out what you wanna do with the car. Just don’t plan on getting out of it what you’d probably expect out of a V8 model, like the SS…

I have a white 1976 Corvette that I have owned for 34 years. Bought it in 1990. It is completely stock appearing, inside and out. The engine and transmission are not original. It did not come with the original engine. I built the engine that is in it now. It looks mostly stock, I did not put any aftermarket appearance items on it, but there are quite a few internal aftermarket parts. It is now a 383ci stroker engine that makes around 320 rwhp at 4000 rpm. It's not fast, but it's a lot faster than it was new. I was more concerned with reliability. It was originally an L48 car. It now has a true dual exhaust system with no cat con, but stock round mufflers. It still sounds stock. It does have aftermarket A/C, so the compressor is different than what it originally came with. I bought a custom built TH350 transmission and just installed it with a B&M 2200 converter. It has the Buckskin leather interior. Silver steel 15x8 rally wheels with trim rings and center caps, 225/70-15 RWL BFG Radial T/As. Completely rust free AZ car. To me the 1974-1977 Corvettes are the best looking Corvettes ever made. I love the urethane bumper covers and flat rear window. It originally came with a luggage rack, but I removed that and had the holes repaired when I had it painted. I was 16 in 1975, and this was my dream car back then, and still is. There is no other car I want more.

I was 13 when my 74 came out. so far since this video, new wheels that I reconditioned have been installed, and ceramic coating, the car looks brand new. and a rear swaybar(never had one) installed just last night as a matter of fact. I show it at 2 shows weekly, every weekend. I havent done a review in a while, looks like its time for a new one along with my 1990 ZR1 I just purcahsed a few months ago. I sold my 93 coupe to get the ZR1. I have one one out soon., thanks for watching and I'll have a report soon. I work full time so the videos are few and far between.

Congrats, I gave this car to my youngest son for getting his bachelors degree. He couldnt drive it (Manual) so we traded it where you bought it a few weeks ago. Enjoy it. BTW, I still have alot of parts for this car. Bra, factory wheels, factory intake, factory sway bars high capacity air cleaner for the factory intake. It uses 10-30 mobil 1 oil, make sure you drain the catch can every oil change. Remove the vitesse throttle controller, if you set the throttle sensitivity too high it sets off the check engine light and throws it into limbo mode. Car is set up for Track use (road course) but alas I never was able to. So it was just a daily.

@@tracktoys92695w-30* engine oil (typo) My friends who had this car, both with the 10-11 LLT and 12-15 LFX V6 engines, ran 0w-30 engine oil. It gives better cold start performance, and there’s also an ESP (emissions protection) specific formula as well.

My box is rebuilt, by me, using the Zip tutorial. I put it back together based on original positions and visible threads from pics i took before the rebuild. New rag joint, tie rod ends, damper, and PSCV. I have about 3" play in the wheel and I am chasing it when driving. 1) I was able to loosen the H nut about 1/2 turn (I could not tighten it any more) and no difference driving. I just loosed it about another 1/2 inch and will test it. I have not adjusted the V screws. 2) if it is still loose, then I assume I go back the other way and try to tighten it? 3) Is it possible the V is too tight as well so no matter what I do the H it won't help?
@chasryan2040 Жыл бұрын
Today I was able to tighten the H plug to the point where I could not turn it anymore. I was moving the wheel at the same time and the play is down from 3" to 1" or less. The test drive has it handling nicely but it feels "more manual" vice steer with one finger--nimble but I have to control it for sure. I stopped the car and tightened the V 1/4 inch and no obvious difference. Upon return to the garage after test drives last night and this AM I see a power steering fluid puddle. Maybe 2 table spoons and it looks like it is coming from the damper. Trouble shooting suggestions?

Steering boxes get their slop from straight driving since that's where we are most of the time. So if you turn the wheel full-lock in either direction, you can snug the sector shaft pretty good and that will be all that you can get out of it and also be safe from breaking the box entirely. If you take out too much lash with the wheels straight on, you can break the box when you do turn full-lock because there is less wear. Hope this helps.

@tracktoys9269 Жыл бұрын
You get a little more wind on the non-tour. But its nice in the warmer months, not so good in the winter months if you find yourself riding in cool to cold weather. The w/s on the non-tour is pretty good all the way up. You can actually hear your radio at highways speeds. on another note, the 2018+ bikes are a little narrower than the previous gen, so you get a little more wind on your legs. You can also get wet when it rains. I didnt get all that much rain exposure on my old G/W.
