great short doc -- nicely done and a love letter to California and the Sierra

Sorry to say those were not native goldens but wild trout for sure that you caught in the Sierra not the Sierras .
@redbandcreativeАй бұрын
We are aware that they aren't native, I'm a fisheries biologist and know the complete native ranges of the Kern River Golden Trout and Volcano Creek Golden Trout, and yes, the correct form of Sierras is Sierra as it is already plural in nature.
@MichaelStout-h2t3 ай бұрын
There are no native trout in the eastern sierras, including the golden trout. They have all been introduced by stocking.
@redbandcreative2 ай бұрын
@@MichaelStout-h2t Come again? You want to mention the Lahontan Cutthroat of the East Walker River Drainage, or the Paiute Cutthroat Trout of Silver King Creek, or the Kern River and Volcano Creek Golden Trout? There’s so many. I’m a fisheries biologist fyi.

@@redbandcreative Guess I should have mentioned that that was according to my father in law who worked for CA fish and game at the Hot Creek fish hatchery

Pro-tip reintroduced fish species are "wild" that were endemic (native) to the area.

The grouse at 0:45 is a Sooty Grouse (Dendragapus fuliginosus). Several characteristics distinquish it from a ruffed grouse. The spots on the underside of the tail and the grey band on the tips of the tailfeathers are some 0:47. The display pattern on the forward side is another 0:48.

Great documentary....but if you are going to post this public video, but claim the location is a secret, well, that's what the self-anointed do. The rest of us just shlep along...without our university educations and attitudes...just a thought. Thanks for listening...

Okay but how many of them did you actually hook in the mouth?
@lucianosilvestri8561 Жыл бұрын
I agree, some people get their grins and giggles from Butt-hooking trout that they can't figure out how to catch. It's super sad and ultimately damages the trout to the point that they could die from infection in open wounds.

It was a well done video, and it’s a neat part of the country, but the Kigers, while recognized as being closely related to the Spanish horses, are not the only such herd in the U.S. There is the Pryor Mountain herd in Montana, the Cerbat mustang in Arizona, and notably, some of the wild horses roaming the outer banks of the Carolinas. Following the Indian Wars the US killed most of the tribes’ horses, and a myriad of small ranches were settled all over the west. Many of these went bust following WW1 and their horses turned loose. Most mustangs are feral descendants of these farm animals. So, Spanish mustangs are unique.

The Sierra Nevada is a beautiful place. Please don't sully its name by pluralizing Sierra which in Spanish describes a range of mountains with ridge that looks like a saw sticking up in the sky. It's so bush league and irreverent to miss the meaning in this name. Did yah fall asleep in class at SOC? There many sets of mountains with sierra in their name on our globe. Such a beautiful piece of work with a scratch in it. Best of luck at job that many others who have gone before with lesser tools...realize that and we move forward as humans.

We agree in a way with what you are saying. Remember, we made this film when we weren't even legal to drink yet... Myself, Kaden, am two months from graduating with a BA in Env. Science & Policy; I understand the coliquilisms. Also remember the history behind the Spanish and the genuflection they caused the native people in the 1600's in California... Sierra Nevada is not the true name to the native tribes such as the Paiute or Washoe.

Humans ruin everything, nothing is "improved" (ever) over what nature has created. Virtually ALL of the places I fished as a young man are now utterly ruined, polluted and spoiled by careless humans. Nature needs to be left alone, she doesn't need our "help".
@redbandcreative2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately as a scientist, I wish that was true. It’s to the point where only we can help clean up our messes, then leave Mother Earth to regain her strength. It’s all we can do.
