Where do you get those nice definitive specimens where you can plainly see the characteristics of each one?

Was recently learning new words and subnivean is one of them. As i write though, i think ill mostly use it metaphorically like: "from its gellid external, it dug deep into the tender core of my subnivean heart" Its a start

This is a great video! How long had these samples been exposed to oxygen for before you took this video? How quickly does oxygen act on the gley soil?
@orianaoutside1163 Жыл бұрын
We took these core samples about 15 months before I recorded these videos. The samples were kept in ziplock bags all that time.

I live within a desert environment, I wish to learn more about soil/soils from your videos. The soil within the environment around my residence is fascinating to me when I observe the relationship the desert soil has with the effects of water and wind erosion.

Planning and Urban design standards,page 73, Fen have a high nutrients, not low nutrients
@orianaoutside11632 жыл бұрын
This is based on the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System. In this system Fen's have higher nutrients than a bog, but lower nutrients than a marsh or swamp. In teaching this course I have learned that the precise definition of a Bog and Fen changes quite a bit depending on where you are from.

Really nice video ! How exactly did you stain it and what kind of dye did you use? I'll have to microscope some lancelets for uni, so that would be very helpful to know! :-)

Do native English speakers generally know their differences or do they consider all types just synonyms to "wetland"? Thanks for the video!
@orianaoutside11632 жыл бұрын
In teaching this course I have learned that the precise definitions of a Bog or Fen changes quite a bit depending on where you are from. Colloquial definitions also differ from scientific. You may grow up calling the wetland near you a swamp, but it is scientifically a bog for example.

In Canada the leached horizon is in a Podzolic soil is called Ae. It is slightly different than the American system. We also designate our Organic soils completely differently.
