I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I’d suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes...

The reason Canadians don’t want to work at lower end jobs is because the tax on the income they earn is too high. Why would a teenager or elderly person take part time job at McDonalds or Walmart when their cheque is pilfered and wasted by a spendthrift government. Who wants to work hard in the private section to support an ever increasing and ungrateful civil service working for a government sending billions overseas and billions on social programs and DEI initiatives. This is smart; but people who don’t want to run a 12 apartment complex but still want multiple houses for other reasons wouldn’t benefit from this. Life isn’t all about zeros in a bank account, and having multiple homes that can double as vacation homes or rentals that also mean more in inheritance is in my opinion a much better option considering how short life is. My parents have 3 houses, a lake house a beach house that we both stay at and rent out seasonally as well as our primary home, which we have also rented out in the past. We rent to a lot of friends and family as well. Since we have 3, rather than a collection of random apartments around the country, it allows higher quality in the properties in most aspects, specifically being located in a good safe area. It also has less of an effect on affordable housing rates for people living in worse scenarios than shifting into more of a landlord position managing properties. I’m only 20 and don’t own any properties of my own, I currently rent in Florida with a roommate to save money, but I’m very grateful for our beach and lake house and the memories around them definitely add more value than slightly more money, considering we are already pretty well off. Like most I have a collection of materialistic items money can buy that are on my wishlist, and I know that stuff like that can make life better; but I really think what you are talking about has a significant impact on renting prices, housing crisis, and a lot of other things. Is there some more political and socioeconomic factors towards those things? Sure. But I think it’s pretty silly to say that people who are more well off becoming a mini landlord and profiting off people who can’t afford to buy their own property doesn’t have an effect. No hate; I think you are 100% right in the sense that your tactic leads to the most profit the quickest. Just sharing this pov
