I just grabbed a pair of the younger version of these, listening to them without my subwoofer, and I can't even tell the sub isn't (I mean I can, because there are nuances). I can hear the bass just as I could with the sub off, but it's just not as powerful so I can't feel the vibrations as I would with a sub. Traded my old pair of KRKs in at guitar center, and got a heavy discount on a pair. Money off from the trade in + 15% off. Never understood the guitar center hate. I had my KRKs for like 9-10 years or about there. Given their reputation (they're good, but receive a lot of hate) I wanted to try something new, especially since in those 10 years a lot of new speakers have been released. But it's good to know that 10 years later, this speaker is still a go to. KRK's speakers change in shape and design every year or so. They really lean into the buyer's remorse aspect of gear acquisition. Luckily they haven't released any new subwoofers since I bought one.
