The blades go too deep into the water - so much so, that part of the shafts go into the water. Either this is a design flaw or those people do not row correctly.

This is, by all means, very interesting; and I can see something of this kind on my own raft or on a kayak. But, at that price point, I do not see how it can start a revolution. I do not see this system on any boat.

It is a great idea; but it has not caught on. A few main reasons: weight; bulkiness; and, probably most importantly, the price tag.

Interesting to eliminate the main drawback of rowing, ie turning your back to where you are going. I have three questions. 1) is there a loss of energy, or rather, what is the loss of energy as compared to traditionnal rowing? 50%? 2) does the system of reversing the oar movement touchy, needing to be regularly adjusted? 3) I suppose that the movements with the writs to have the oar vertical/horizontal is particularly painful. Is it correct? Thanks
@coastalrowingforce
@coastalrowingforce Жыл бұрын
There is no loss of energy due to the ball bearings in the linkage. And adjusting regulary in not needed and neither even possible. Moving the oar vertical/horizontal (Squarring or feathering is the correct expression) can be done by 2 fingers and is much easier as with traditional rowing.

just a theoretical question: would it be possible to mount a board with a rowvista and a rowmotion, so the rowers would face each other?

I have been waiting for something like this forever. Too much traffic on the water for normal (backwards) rowing where I live. A minimal forward rowing craft is awesome! This is exercise, traditional kayaking is not exercise, I don't care what anyone says, you can't get effective muscle toning and cardio with typical 'yaking.

Your comment is very appreciated and we are proud to say that ROWVISTA is unique in the world due to a simple solution for the absolutly necessary blade feathering transferred via the linkage on a simpleway -- world wide patented. Easy to learn rowing with RowVista compared to traditional backward rowing. And we like your code name: Someotherdude 🙂 One of our boards we offer is called the DUDE 18

How fast can you go?
@robmallinson7962

Hi Martin. I have a few of these down here in New Zealand, and have been rowing them for about 3 years now. When rowing the conventional way (backwards) I can average about 10km/hr over an hour. In a normal single scull I can average about 14km/hr. So that is not bad for an inflatable boat that is way more stable/safe and much more robust than fibreglass - and easily fits in the back of my car (!). (Actually I can get 5 boats/riggers/slides/oars and 5 people in my Kia Sportage (using a roof rack) so me and my 4 sons can easily go for a row on any waterway we like within sensible driving distance). When rowing the RowVISTA (forward-facing) mechanism I can average about 8km/hr. The strange thing is that I can't get my heart rate above about 138bpm (I'm 56) when rowing the RowVISTA so it is actually a VERY sustainable pace, so very enjoyable. The longest row I did (out to an island here in Auckland) was a 22km round trip - equivalent to about 38km in a conventional Single Scull (which would be near-impossible). So a bit slower but very well suited to what I call 'leisure' rowing - and right in the Aerobic zone.

@@robmallinson7962 Yes, a bit slower, but much more enjoyable - with the view and much easier navigation in long distance rowing.

The RowVista mechanism is complex, and brilliant. Good work! Does the inherent design REQUIRE to feather the oars in reverse of traditional rowing sculls? (Rolling forward than backward at the feather.) It would seem easier to master if so. Regardless, I wish you well.
@LeroyYue
@LeroyYue Жыл бұрын
I have this. The feathering motion is the same as in traditional rowing sculls. And the rotation is limited to 2 max positions - so very easy for beginners.
