I actually just purchased 2 heavy closet doors and I'm hoping with only myself doing this as you, I can do. The closet doors I purchased for $20 each from Market place, i got them at a steal. The woman didn't realize how expensive these doors are. I didn't realize they were heavy. They have lattice inserts on both sides and curtains. So I'm keeping them as is. Other than i might try putting a mirror on one and small rack to hold stuff.? Not sure. But paint them white instead of cream colored. This idea is so helpful. ❤ I hope it helps my doors. Way your door heavy?

@paigenw.home198 күн бұрын
@@MyLisa109 it was pretty quick, we based the size of it on our doorway, so we did just slightly wider than the width from the outside of the trim. We used probably about 8 1x2s but will depend on your height and spacing. We used 1/4in thick plywood to reduce weight

The ‘newer veneer’ is called tiger oak. It’s obtain by quarter-sawing the oak tree. It produces a pronounced grain but it is a less efficient use of the wood so it is more costly. It was highly desirable 100 years ago when that dresser was produced. The dresser came with that veneer originally. What you call the ‘original veneer’ was actually what’s called case wood. Its is a lower quality grade of wood that is structural strong but aesthetically unpleasing. Hence, it was skim coated with a veneer. You can buy veneer patches online to replace small pieces of veneer instead of replacing the whole top. Also, try to hold onto the pieces you remove so you can reuse them to patch other future flips. To easily remove veneer, lay a damp towel on the furniture piece and iron it with a steam iron. The steam will soften the hide glue and the sheet will lift off easier. Also, never use dry wall compound on wood. As the moisture in the air changes, the wood expands and contracts. Joint compound dries brittle and will chip out during this expansion and contraction. Wood filler remains ‘elastic’ to move with the wood. If you want repeat business, aim for durability, not just ascetics. Happy flipping!

Love all your ideas. Your bathroom looks stunning. The shiplap on a small space is so impactful for not much money at all. Visually, it pulls that wall out. Much cheaper and better looking than busy tile. The wallpaper and color of vanity are such a new vibe mixed with the old vibe of shiplap. Great balance! The craftsman-style molding is such an affordable, easy upgrade. So much better than busy-looking poly molding. Great paint colors, too. The fluted umbrella stand is beautiful. For outdoor protection, use spar varnish. It’s a marine varnish used on boat decks. I’m not sure if they have a water-based version, but work outdoors for ventilation and wear gloves. In between coats, brushes can be wrapped in plastic food wrap and stored in the freezer. If you don’t want to use solvent to clean them, buy a cheaper one and toss when done. They also sell it in spray cans but it can be harder to find. If the varnish is too shiny, dull with fine grade steel wool. Looking forward to seeing more of your improvements. 😊

The serpentine front of this dresser is quality craftsmanship not easily duplicated. While I like things with as close to the original finish as possible, I think it’s great that you salvaged it. As for the marble top, you had the right idea except maybe make a new top out of 3/4 plywood. Round the edges and put your faux marble finish on that. Then place that on top your existing dresser top, like a slab of real stone. That way if it doesn’t sell because people don’t like the top, it can be easily removed. Of course, if you have a stone countertop installer in your area, you could mock up a craft paper template and take it to them to cut a new slab of real stone. It’s pricey, though. Your faux marble is preferable to movers as well. LOL Keep up the great work. The older furniture is made with so much better materials than the new. That’s why it’s lasted 100 years. That tiger oak veneer is gorgeous.
