Being a changeling is like living with psychosis. As a changeling, you see and speak to people that "aren't there," experience realities others would call "delusional," and, if you lean in too hard, become untethered to the "real world" to the degree that you're effectively a non-player in it. Living with psychosis, one has to straddle that line, learn which voices to listen to and which to ignore, recognize what actually is a sign and what is a false positive. It is absolutely possible to get "lost in the sauce," and it's happened to me. I feel that Freeholds are a very serviceable metaphor in that regard. I can see how they can be ill-fitted as a metaphor for a safe space for autists, however.

I understand why you'd not like the Sidhe, but each of the leadership splats in the world of darkness arnt exclusively leaders. Homeless and penniless ventrue exist who don't have anything to their name, there are Hermetic Mages who don't have an interest in the political manuverings in the WoD, and I see the Sidhe in the same light. I think both of C20s Sidhe are perfectly fine player Kiths, because even though they are tightcasted as nobility, that doesnt force them to be snarky and up their own keisters. Ventrue (despite the bad rep they have) follow an in clan code that prioritizes them helping their lessers, and if a group of immortal blue blooded vampires can make good, kind and respectful leaders then I see no reason why the Sidhe cant be.

I think the blend of themes that werewolf and changeling both share is the fighting a lost cause. Almost. Werewolves have this war have this need to fight for a dying planet while changelings are kind of fighting against the despair of endless winter, at least some of them are so that I've always felt like was one of the stronger kind of thematics that the two genres shared.

I'm so happy to finally come across folks who get it - Changeling really is the most depressing, or dark, of the WoD lines. Hopefully y'all delve into some of the new systems that came with Changeling 20. But you've got a follow/subscribe from me!

That revision of the Original Cosmology is fantastic. I hate Conflict-driven mythologies. So...The first Death of an Unformed causes the First Permanence, which is basically Material Reality.... That death is so horrifying and/or despairing and/or vexing to the other Unshaped that...what, they circle the Permanence, or crawl onto it or whatever, bringing Consciousness into the "corpse" of the First to Die, aka Life into the Material Universe? I friggin LOVE it.

Like apparently they are possessed and now after an hour changeling have rabbit feet? Could you not have said that when talking about what a changeling is or chimerical reality? This is deeply annoying.

So, it occured to me that it'd be pretty rad to have a Fire Inanimae villain who escapes a battle with Countless by stepping into the ignition of a rocket of a space program that they were trying to interfere with, since the rocket flare could serve as an anchor from being fire tied to an event strongly tied to wonder

Listening to you two talk about how Sidhe work in the USA made me really consider them from the dutch perspective. Since I am dutch, I suppose I'm much less opposed to them inherently because we have been, from the start and in Changeling terms, a commoner country. We were born from common wishes of enterprise and rebellion against taxes and religious intolerance, or at least that is the national narritive opposed to what the USA seems to think it's narrative is. In fact, many Dutch people consider our own royal family as being perfectly fine, hell we even joke about and like them sometimes. So, to me a chronicle in the kingdom of flowers would really be helped by examining that with the Sidhe. Not a story of privilege, which here is not from royalty but mercantile dynasties so would be much more fitted to work with nocker or even boggans, but a story of leadership. Of a hands-off rulership which stands beside the common Kithain instead of above or opposed. Idk if any of this makes sense but it's something I like to think about

I love the comparison between the game's politics and real life politics in your country. As a newcomer to the game who was introduced to it by the 20th anniversary edition, I keep thinking about how a game set in my country would play out and how it would relate to our real life dreams and also politics, and how the sidhe would fit in it. Unfortunately (or not) I don't have access to all of the material and from what I see there is almost nothing official related to my part of the world.

Hi! I listened to this podcast because i recently read DA:Fae, which i like very much. In the video you say that there is no mention of the Fomorians. It's not true, if you read at page 181 it is written that the War of Silver and Iron began because the Summer Court tricked the werewolf into fighting the Winter Court, dubbed "The Fomorians", and they were described as hell spawn who wanted to destroy the world. After they forced the Winter Court to rout, the Werewolf turned on the Summer Court. That is how the war began. I personally really like the fact that the Fomorians (and the Tuatha by osmosis) were just very powerful fae, or just normal fae of the winter and summer courts.

I think the Spriggans and Piskies work in C20 cause its about community. A piskie contributes. It comes in and becomes either what the community needs or is, while Spriggans come in, blend in and steal something away. Spriggans are hobos cause everyone ignores them, so it blends in with a town or city or neighbourhood and then it steals away its future. While a Piskie comes in, blends in, and makes the world better or at least brings in something new

I have to say, I struggled with this book at first. I had a hard time, at first, to fit it in with the rest of Changeling. But as it continued I think it became clearer and clearer, and this episode cleared up any other questions I had. I still have some minor niggles with the systems within (I think the Clades are lacking a Captain Kirk, engineer, and 'alien bruiser' types cause those are standard in sci-fi), but those can be compensated for with base changeling, so it's as close to a perfect supplement as you can get

Gotta say, I love all of your podcasts. Changeling is such a great game and this definitely helps me as a Chronicler Edit: personally, I always saw Banality as just... Acceptance. Coldly taking what the world gives you. If we all believed in, for example, Irish paganism and were raised on it and didn't go against it that world would be just as banal as one based on science. Banality is when you just... Don't dare to differ, don't dare to step off the trod

Good stuff. You manage to come up with quite a lot of really good ideas how to do crossover stuff with the other settings. I spent most of my World of Darkness time playing VtM and one of my few laments concerning Revised edition is that they pretty much completely abandoned the idea of the Malkavian-Arcadia Connection that was heavily alluded to in the the first Clanbook Malkavian. Yet, even in the Revised Clanbook there remains one curious use of one of their Clan Disciplines. "Deny" (Dementation Level 8) and it reads as follows: _This highly disturbing power offers a very compelling argument that the Malkavians see more of reality than anyone else does. The Malkavian using Deny is able to focus away from a certain object so completely that the object ceases to exist in the Malkavian’s perception. However, the power of Dementation is so strong that for all intents and purposes, the Malkavian is right. The Malkavain may step through a locked door that he “doesn’t see” as if it were an archway; a sword that he refuses to acknowledge will fail to cut him, passing right through his body. _*_Those few elders of other clans who’ve seen this power in action cannot find a suitable explanation for how exactly it works. Perhaps the astral plane is somehow involved, or perhaps elder Lunatics simply function in more than three dimensions - who can say?_*_ There’s certainly no explanation forthcoming from the Malkavians.…_ _(This power cannot be used to “deny” the existence of living creatures, undead or spirits; it works only on inanimate objects)_ Always thought that was kinda interesting.

The book itself is beautiful! Very well done. Sadly, it's just a carbon copy of V5 with "blood to wyrd" switch. So the most impressive feature of V5 is mechanics backing the theme. While in this C5 the original theme of lost wonder seems to be gone. Nice art though

To be honest we solicited guests to talk about the Hsien for a few months both publicly and through more focused channels. We weren't able to find anyone who was willing to come on the show to talk about them, and as a couple white guys we weren't comfortable tackling the topic ourselves. It's the same reason we never did an episode on the Menehune. We're still open to tackling these topics with the right guest, but thus far we haven't found that person.
