Hey mate! Looks amazing!! I’m going to North Queensland soon for fishing mostly. Mostly want to do land based GT fishing. Do you have some general recommendations or tips for areas? On one hand around cairns/Whitsundays seems good but it looks like a boat is almost necessary for good fishing. I think up north around Siesa and Cape York would be better as there’s less fishers and it’s warmer! What are your thoughts and if you have general tips for someone going up north for fishing I would definitely love to hear it!!
@jake_the_kent8 күн бұрын
Gday mate 👋 I’ve never caught a GT myself so probably not a lot of advice I can offer you there unfortunately. And also since we’re very commonly on the move as we travel around the country, I have fished a fair few spots but I’m never really around long enough to work them out which can be a bit frustrating and again make it difficult to give helpful advice 😂 Happy to share what I can though! I caught a pretty decent tuna land based at 1770 and have heard of good Spanish Mackerel caught there although that’s probably a bit far south. As we moved up the east coast I found the water from about Clairview up to around Port Douglas to be pretty consistently murky. Not sure if that’s typical of that section of coast or not and don’t know what water GTs prefer but I assume it’d be harder to get on to them with poor water clarity. I loved Cape York and had the most fishing action up that way, although It’s a fair slog up there so if you’re looking for a fishing trip specifically, you might find the journey up there chews into too much fishing time. I hooked fish at Roonga Point and The Tip up there (didn’t land much though as you would’ve seen 😂) and have also heard good things about Seisia Wharf. Cooktown might be worth doing a bit of research on. Less of a mission to get to than the northern section of the Cape, but still plenty of good fish kicking around. I caught a few decent mackerel there and saw a heaps consistently getting caught off the wharf, although no GTs in sight. Personally if I was planning a GT mission and was set on land based and North Queensland I recon I’d look into getting a boat out to one of the islands along the reef and land based fishing from there. Sounds like a lot of effort and it probably is, not sure what’s involved logistically or permit wise either, but I think that’s where I’d start looking. If you haven’t come across it already, Briggsy Sport Fishing is a channel that does a lot of wicked landbased GT missions from islands which might help with your planning. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful mate but I hope that helps a bit. All the best with the fishing mish and cheers for the support 🤙

Hey Jake, Im headed that way shortly, how slippery are those rocks? Did it feel sketchy?
@jake_the_kentАй бұрын
Gday mate 👋 Thanks for the message. A hard question to answer really haha but I’d probably put them at about a 6/10 on the slippery scale. I’ve certainly fished from both less and more slippery rocks. Obviously the ones with water splashing on to them or the ones lower down which are more often under water seemed slipperiest. With that being said besides the part where I was jumping around after the fish I felt pretty stable. Was able to find a few pretty big flat dry rocks which I spent most my time on. Honestly I found the walk to the fishing spot sketchier than the spot itself. Certainly not a place to take lightly. You could always pop in to the Agnes Water tackle for some more up to date info, they seemed pretty helpful in there. Hope that helps legend, All the best with your trip ✌️

Mate are there lots of places side of the road to chuck a line And whats the map book you have cheers
@jake_the_kent3 ай бұрын
Gday mate 👋 Not as many places to fish on the way up as I was expecting but I was up there towards the end of the dry season last year. From south to north the main spots I fished on the way up were hann river, coen river, archer river, and the wenlock just before Moreton Telegraph station. Heaps of places to fish north of the Jardine crossing though towards the top. I’m not exactly sure of the map book unfortunately as I don’t have it with me at the moment. I think it was the Hema Cape York Atlas & Guide though. My main go to map book is “Camps Australia Wide 11”. That things a ripper, theres an app associated with it as well. All the best if you’re heading up that way mate. Beautiful part of the country. Cheers for the comment ✌️

Hey guys, have just found your channel and am loving it! May I ask what you do for showers and toileting? Also washing dishes etc. Really interested in your set up for travelling so light, as in without a trailer etc.
@jake_the_kent4 ай бұрын
Hey Jodie and Daz! 👋 Thanks for watching and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying! We found that the east coast was built up enough (with the exception of Cape York) that we were generally not too far from toilets and showers. We use an app called WikiCamps to help locate public showers, and also found that truck stops and big servos often had showers for free or for a small fee. We do also have a basic shower set up which we occasionally use for a quick rinse. I've run through that set up in a previous video which I'll link below, so feel free to check that out if you wish (starts at 2:43). We have a collapsable rectangular tub which we can use as a sink for washing dishes. This packs up really flat and lives behind our white chopping board which you can see is mounted on the front of the left drawer. We've gotten better at using less over time though and sometimes even wash dishes within the pot we've cooked with 😅. Deciding what to take and working out how to fit everything in certainly took some time. We got there eventually though and I love the set up exactly how it is 🤙 Thanks for the comment! kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIrFhneeatKJpsk
