The TT you are servicing must be the PL-516, as the PL-518 is direct drive. Thanks for taking the time to post the video. Very helpful for how to access the pitch pot for cleaning. The PL-518 is very similar, except that there is one screw to remove, and the entire auto return assembly remains connected to the tone arm assembly.

Extremely frustrating table to work on - And I don’t understand the love affair with it because the mechanic are metal sliding on metal that will always cause issues. There is no clearance on the sliding on / off mechanism which always Boggs down - Dual may be held in high esteem, but the 1019 is a collection of bogged down levers that will always cause trouble.

I've had a 1974 PL-10 for 45 years now. It's still in very good condition, all accessories, and the box. In 1979 my oldest sister moved out of state and left me her stereo system - Pioneer SX-434, PL-10, and pair of speakers. I was 14, this was my first stereo. I absolutely loved it and still do. Only in the past year have I discovered that this is all entry level and low power. Never knew that, never cared, still don't care. I recently had the SX-434 restored to spec and serviced the PL-10 myself - clean/lubricate the spindle, new belt, new cartridge - that's all there is to it. It's still my only turntable (except for Voice of Music 1200-series record changers in consoles).

I get a feeling that there are two sources for voice coil rub. One is that the voice coil is not circular and the other is that the surround dope has "fallen" down. Think the first thing to try is to move the driver 180 degree and wait some days to see if it's get better. The dope on the Altec can float around when it get hot. Question: What to use as dope for the surrounding? Is it black latex?

how often are the caps bad on the board ? having some issue with mine with the solenoid not always working ...
@millervintagehifi303421 күн бұрын
Estimates are that caps are designed to last 15-20 years (naturally, YMMV) so caps that are pushing 40/50/60 years old are more prone to drift out of spec or fail, causing issues. This turntable also uses optical sensors/lamps that will weaken over time (IIRC).
