Gotta say something, just because I'm a machinist and it bothers me. 1/64" = .0156", so 3/64" = .0468" 1/32" = .0312" So your propane jet is .0468", not the .030" you stated. If you don't understand what a fraction means in decimal form, pull out your phone and open the calculator app. Punch in the top number and divide it by the bottom number. Other than that, good video.
@TurnerForge4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The .030 was the size mig tip I purchased. That is what it said on the packaging. But thank you for giving me a heads up. Glad you like the vid.
@zombieresponder4 жыл бұрын

I really like the design of this burner but I’m unable to get my forge above 1500°f when I run the burner at 7-10 psi. So the material I’m work on only gets orange and gives me very little time to forge it. My forge is the small one which I saw on essential craftsman 4.5x4x9. I use 1-1/4 flare on the burner end and I’ve tried 1-1/4 and 1-1/2 on the entry orifice. I’ve also tried different lengths of pipe 6 and 8 inch. And different welding tips .030 and .035. I also made the necessary flame adjustments by moving the tip in and out. I don’t see very much difference in any of the setup combinations I try, however, when I add a bit of air into the orifice from a hair dryer I can increase the temperature by at least 200°f. Many of the other similar burner design suggest a method of choking off the air intake but I’m finding its better to add more air. Do you have any idea what I can try to increase the temperature of the forge? Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks
@TurnerForge4 жыл бұрын
Hey ben. Wow it seems like you have tried almost everything! First thing, are you getting allot of dragons breath? This may be too much torch for that little forge. I wonder if you made a version of this torch scaled down if you may get better results? Also I would look at the delivery oriface, is it aligned so that the jet is not bouncing around in the torch body? Sometimes that can kill your heat. It's hard to diagnose without seeing it in action. I also have found that 6 to 7 inches is the sweet spot for the torch body.
@benlallier17214 жыл бұрын
Turner Forge Thanks for the timely reply. Yes the mig tip is aligned for sure . But you’ve given me a couple of things to consider. I don’t think there is too much dragon’s breath. When you say scale it down a bit I presume you are saying to try a smaller mig tip. Perhaps a .023. Will do but I am finding that the .035 gives somewhat more heat than the .030. And as for the size of the forge it will be fairly easy for me to double the size with a few bricks and see what happens. Unfortunately I live in the boondocks and don’t have easy access to everything but I will certainly give your suggestions a try ASAP. Thanks again.
@TurnerForge4 жыл бұрын
@@benlallier1721 actually by scale it down I was talking about the torch body diameter it might be a better fit for your forge
@benlallier17214 жыл бұрын
Turner Forge as it turns out I discovered today that you should not use hard fire bricks for a forge. Apparently they soak up the heat. Unfortunately that’s all they carried at the local brickyard. I was able to buy a soft fire brick from a local potter to drill the hole for the burner. I will try and get some more from him to replace the hard ones. Really anxious to get the forge working properly so that I can get forging!

To use a mig tip (14T) you need to find the proper 1/8" nipple. There are 2 types. One has a smaller dia. Works great. I can't remember whether mine is .040 or .035, but they work with 11 psi of gas for 2 burners.
