the best part of his new design for me, is that you can't see his wings anymore, they're not free, and they're not disguised like his 'vest', they're completely covered now so suggesting that his greatest obstacle is shame; i think it's pretty spot on, at least, it's an element of it, hiding the wings entirely could signify that he can't quite face the damage (trauma) he's sustained and in part, done to himself, head on, but it could also be an indication of removing his crippled ability of flight from the equation and trying to grow/move on without it, like learning to function as if entirely missing a limb, not just an irreversible injury

I love your analyses of Sunday so much ;,) After watching this, I realised the meaning of the symbolisms of his animation kind of related to his OCD: "Shame and guilt are common emotions in OCD, (but they don't have to control your life.)"

The amount of learning about ourself that we've achieved from playing this game and from video essays like this one continues to astonish. Not what I was expecting from our first gacha game, only picked up while bedridden with terrible physical and mental health issues. To say the the writing in HSR has helped us through some very rough times would be an understatement. Thank you for this detailed and insightful analysis. Not quite halfway through but had to comment.

As a Roman Catholic, the big irony for Sunday is that despite being named after the day were Christians go to church, following the seven days of creation, trying to eliminate humanity's original sin, and having angelic designs on him, he ends up breaking some of the Bible's core commandments and committed sins. that being: You shall no other Gods than me: He betrayed Xipe the Harmony for Ena the Order You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain: Despite claiming to follow the Harmony and wanting an eternal paradise, he bastardized the Harmony by trying to create an eternal prison which he thinks will rid people of pain but instead will only cause them to lose any meaning in their lives as it's all just a dream. You shall not steal: In this case he stole the ability of Free Will and Conscience from all who entered Penacony thus forcing them to live in a completely artificial reality where they can 'live in peace' from pain and suffering. I really like the Penacony Story as it resonated with me deeply as a person mentally, spiritually and psychologically. From Firefly's entropy loss syndrome, Sunday's distorted view of how humanity should be controlled, and the message it conveys about your dreams and reality. I now want to see the world for all the beauty it has to offer but of cource want to carve my own path to free will. I will fall down along the way but I will always pick myself up,

Excellent analysis!!! I would have never been able to connect the dots and realise just how deeply written his character is. Thank you for taking your time to make such a brilliantly detailed video!! I wonder what your thoughts would be on his recent quest, would love a small part 2 if you're willing!

I would love to see a continuation on the Psychology of a Dreamer video now that 2.7 exists. I would love to better understand how Wonweek, split personas and the self-tuning and the comments made all play into his changing and hopefully growing mindset.

In his ult he says "I will walk with you, watch over you, and guide you on your path" like a tru guardian angel I CRY But yes, the shame is so visible. I am glad tho that they didin't just whitewash him but gave him a chance to truly repent. I am looking forward to it

now i made it to the end of the video, i need to comment again, really just to appreciate how much effort and work wouldve gone into scripting and editing to create this for us. truly absolutely a magnificent job well done. Sunday has resonated with me ever since meeting him in penacony, before knowing he would be a playable character from that moment i saved every currency in the game to make sure i could have him as a part of my team. i cannot stop consuming his lore content, this was by far the best breakdown, and really even helped me realise why i might have fallen so deeply in love with this man. thank you <3

I'm showing up here just a handful of months later to say, thank you for delving into how Shulk must've felt AFTER the events of Prison Island's first visit, and the Sword Valley segment. So many people tend to overlook Shulk's sudden shift from bloodlust to understanding, and right it off as "The writers did that thing where the character doesn't want to be as bad as the bad guys." But I never saw it like that. The scene with Shulk stopping Dunban's blade from killing Mumkhar was always this definitive symbol of Shulk no longer falling into his spiral for wanton death against the Mechonis. As you said, his break from the passage of fate that Zanza was guiding him down. After seeing how little he understands the conflict between the two titans, all he wants now is to figure out just why it has to be this way. Quite literally, why do Bionis and Mechonis keep on fighting? And while it wasn't the focus of the video, I always acknowledged and even *appreciated* how the scene continued after Dunban accepted Shulk's reasons for refusing to kill more Faced Mechon if they could help it. They were going to aim to stop Egil and the Mechonis, as the fear of killing innocent Homs was now present in the scenario (this includes Fiora). But even after that declaration, Mumkhar himself embodies one last act of bloodlust. And it's his *own* actions that get him killed. Shulk sees the vision of Mumkhar dying, shakes off the daze as fast as he can, and *pleads* for Mumkhar to stop. He's true to his want, to avoid further death and destruction. Taking his fate into his own hands, and trying to change course from his previously desired want for murder. The fact that the vision shown was to stop a _Mechon_ from getting killed is already indicative enough that the visions might've already slipped from Zanza's control. It's only Mumkhar's rageful actions that pushes him into his own demise.

omg, this was a really good video, so glad I stumbled upon this. Also thank you for not putting every actions he does on Gopher, like yes he was groomed by him that doesn't mean it wasn't Sunday himself coming to these conclusion and doing things he did. I hate when people put every bad deeds Sunday did on Gopher Wood, also it's pretty likely he is already dead by the point the TB arrive at penacony and it's only the stellaron talking. Also wonder what's your thoughts on 2.7 quest.

i love this video!!! found it about a week ago but watched it fully only today - and oh i love love it s much. thank you for this analysis. also i did watch it after completing 2.7 main quest and now can't help but notice how he already starts to move on and heal from things and behaviours that were nearly his core traits as a character early on in the questline. i won't go into much details bc spoilers - but him leaving pretty important things to chance and/or fate instead of overanalyzing and hesitating to make decision, among other things is so important to me. he not only tries to change his ways - he does that actively learning from person who he despised before. that said - the process of his healing is only starting. the dialogue between him and wonweek near the end of the quest shows that he is still tied close to the ways of thinking that he learned and adapted to for years and that he isn't yet willing to change many of them - which is understandable and shows really shows that his own journey is just starting. thank you qgain for making this video!!

as someone studying to be an art therapist, i've always looked at characters from this sort of perspective. i always wonder what happened to them in their youth, how were they raised, etc etc, always asking questions. and if we learn about their raising/etc, it helped me draw more conclusions and helped me better understand them. through this, i've been able to better understand people and even help them. media can help you understand life, and vise versa. thank you so much for making this video!

This is a good analysis, but it's frustrating to see the matter of Sunday and Robin's "second sets of wings" being addressed as fact. They DO NOT have additional wings on their body-Robin's dress and Sunday's vest are simply styled to look like wings. If you look closely, you can see that Robin's fake wings are pinned to her dress, and whenever you see either of them in different outfits (including Sunday's playable outfit), there are no wings to be seen.

I feel like Sunday sometimes. It's so hard to escape the past you were in for your whole life. It's hard to imagine things could ever be different
