Yes yes, this is what I do exactly and my repairs last as long as any rod joint. Just watched an American bodger telling people be do it with a metal nail…what a fool. That doesn’t bend, is too heavy and a lot of nails aren’t perfectly round either…well done. The only thing I would do differently is to pull the thick section to jam in place by hand not pliers to avoid damage to the carbon, I would not apply any glued until it was jammed in position. Superglue creeps by capillarity into the joint to seal tiny gaps without adding much weight. There’s no point in gluing it then pulling it out more. And your rubbing paper is far too coarse for carbon, much finer please. Oh and don’t file the broken piece flat with a file. That can make things worse opening up splitting fibres further. The fracture being uneven locates both halves back precisely like a 2 piece jigsaw puzzle. Never ever push a file inside a broken joint either as again it can open split fibres up further. You don’t need to be so miserly with the glueing of the thinner section. Surplus pushes outside of the joint always and is wiped off easily provided you use a two part epoxy resin for the thinner section instead of superglue. It’s resin after all which bonds the original rod fibres, it is more flexible and it fills tiny voids more completely. And no no, please you don’t whip rods like that just sticking the ends of thread with superglue. You overwhip and tuck them in place for added strength. Lots of U tube videos show how that’s done. So oops on reflection a whole host of techniques which aren’t right sorry, needs to be said to help others. Having said all that I may just have you repair my rods too, I wouldn’t let someone with a metal nail to repair it near my rod at all for sure. You have the most impotent thing right though of using a spliced carbon fibre repair!😊
