90% Isopropyl alcohol is also great for removing acrylic paint, I’ve left models soak in it for as little as an hour for good results, it does leave a faint trace of whatever that primer color was but the paint is removed enough that all the details are unobstructed.

Here's why this channel is failing or has failed. He's an excellent crafter, but constantly taking 3-5 minutes to explain what you're going to do in the video, and then (again) telling us what you're doing in the video is a 9th level sleep spell for most people. (And we don't also need a recap of a previous video either.) There's no life in your videos, just a monotoned, repeating blow by blow. Just a respectful suggestion... Make this your intro- "Hey guys, Dave with Chaos Craft here... and today I'm going to show you how I made this inexpensive terrain with just some simple materials, and you can too, so let's get started!" That's it. That's all you need. You don't need to have a 5-minute opening of what you're going to do, only to say it again while you're doing it. And try to inject just a little enthusiasm in what you're doing. Again, you're an excellent crafter Dave, but your YT business sense sucks. But it's your channel, do what you want. I hope you succeed.

I am new to the terrain building scene, and i have to say, this video helped me out immensely! I have taken on a huge project for my gaming group, of building all the terrain for DCC's sailors on the Starless sea, and was having huge trouble on how to build the underground mountain at the end. This gave me hope, that it wasn't going to be as daunting as i was making it out to be. Thanks!!!

Welcome! What is your hobby of choice? Currently I am in the middle of building a Dragon ship for my D&D campaign.
@bradcraig66768 ай бұрын
That turned out very nicely! No real dragon longships survive, we have only the viking sagas (and rare descriptions penned by their intended victims) to recreate the look. It is said that the dragon heads were removable and only fitted on the prow during raids, but there is some debate about that.

I really appreciate the feedback, may I ask another question? On long format videos do you like a continual running monologue or is crafting and music acceptable? The reason I ask, the talking side of my brain wants to turn off as the creative side starts to fire off.

I'm a Rail Road Modeler, and I have a lot of XPF scenery similar to your build, but a lot more. I have a color of Latex paint I want to use, It's house latex paint and I want to mix it with Mod Podge to create my base coat, Can I mix it with latex paint? Great video!
@Chaos_Crafting9 ай бұрын
I have heard that mod podge and latex paint react together and never dry fully. I have never tried it myself, be bet would be to try a small test on a scrap of the foam. I have always used acrylic paint with the mod podge and sealed it with minwax spray varnish. Thanks for the comment!

I love building terrain! There are two downsides, the time it takes and storing an item after. Modularity is the way, build once and use may ways. Thanks for to comment. BTW, I loved MTG back in the day.

I have wanted to start doing rocks out of foam for a while, but for some reason I can never get them looking right... so I have gotten scared to even do them... I build dioramas for photo shoots with my HO locomotives. All I want is to make foam look like rocks.
@Chaos_Crafting Жыл бұрын
I see two ways to accomplish this. one: master carving foam to look like rocks, takes time and practice. or two: Woodland Scenics sells a rock mold that lets you cast realistic looking rocks from plaster that you can glue to a foam backdrop. (woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/item/C1231)

The taped down ruler is a clever idea. These turned out real good. How long did it take you to make the whole thing?
@Chaos_Crafting Жыл бұрын
a few hours start to finish, took longer for the primer to dry than it did to assemble and paint. I guess it depends on the level of detail you want to put into the project.
@reddogterrain Жыл бұрын
@@Chaos_Crafting With the Proxxon you can make short work if things like that. I guess, as long as you pay attention to the angles and your cuts.

An observation and nik-picking of the stone layout around the archway. The stones around the archway would be more realistic having dressed stones around it and/or having a key stone at the top, because if that was built in reality it would fall done due to no key stone to lock the stones in place above the arch etc. But it does look very good otherwise.

Just a pro-tip if you are willing to splurge (up front) to bring costs down even further and with a little extra work: use the 4ft x 8ft variants which was mentioned in the foot note at 1:18 . While the smaller panels are more convenient, the 1 in x 4ft x 8ft panels cost only about $22 after tax at my local home depot (which comes out to about $0.69 per square foot, nice!) whereas the 2x2 ft panel costs $1.50 per square foot. If you have a pick up truck, or a larger vehicle that can carry the 4x8 foot sheets home with the rear window down, I highly suggest doing it this way if you're planning on (eventually) creating enough terrain out of foam for an entire table (or want to have spare foam for fancier and more elaborate terrain). Same goes with the mdf board, but honestly, since most tables are just 3.66ft x 5ft or 3.66ft x 7.5 ft, you could just eat the cost and buy a 1/8 in x 4ft x 8ft mdf hardboard panel at home depot for about $15 after tax, and just slam the foam on top since you're already heading over! This does increase initial cost from $22.14 (using my local tax and given prices) to $37.14 so $15, but you end up with roughly 4x as much foam and mdf hardboard. (But this is just for those who already know that they're going to use up at least half of all of the materials, and know what they're getting themselves into. The only reason I took this approach was because I knew I was bound to make mistakes and am a perfectionist. I didn't end up going through all of it, but about 75%. I have the remaining 25% stored in the attic and can grab and continue to use at a moments notice) Ignoring what I've said thus far, this is a very well made and thought out video! You earned a subscribble from myself! (whatever that's worth)
@Chaos_Crafting Жыл бұрын
Darius you are spot on! I was being a little lazy when it came to getting the smaller sized material. I have a small car and need to cut down the larger sheets of foam to have them fit. With that said, I am going back soon to get a large sheet of the 2 inch thick XPS. Thanks for the kind words on the video, I know I still have a lot to learn.
