There could be a solution to the whole sideways. Lightsabers get some gray straight droid arms because one of the clips is rotated 90° from the other so you can have him hold the lightsaber straight up. They'll stick out a little farther, but you could compensate that by angling the arms forward.

I think the new one looks better, but functions worse, first, the lightsabers I agree with, second, it can’t wear any capes, third, to have him facing forward, his neck has to be bent down and lunged out all the way like an extremity. Personally, I think it’s time for a redesign which includes and fixes all these functions, AND gives the ability to do his iconic lightsaber spin technique which isn’t achievable on either version.
