A relatively modern method of serving absinthe that wastes alcohol, ruins the flavour and prevents the full release of the botanical flavours. I suspect this ‘Bohemian’ method was probably invented for visual spectacle to make the barman look clever rather than in the interests of fine flavour. Iced water about 3 times the amount of the absinth) should be slowly dripped through the sugar cube until the sugar dissolves and the absinth takes on a cloudy milky-green colour (louche) thus releasing the gorgeous botanical flavours from the alcohol. I wouldn’t drink absinth served by this guy, even if you paid me.

Anyone who knows true absinthe, knows lighting the sugar cube on fire, is in no way "traditional", in fact it is just plain cringey to have some one do that, your burn off the alcohol and ruin the taste like just look at the color before or after he lights it, one true absinthe is not that shade of green (makes me feel that "absinthe" was made with artifical coloring, secondly true absinthe turns opaque or milky looking ( reminds me of lime juice) when water is added due to the water causing emalsification effect withe the essential oils found in the herbs used to make absinthe and give the true authentic color not that artificial coloring nonsense, and how it turns super dark like that after the burnt sugar is added....... that's horrible the dark color is coming from the blackened BURNT sugar...... so yeah for true absinthe made the authentic and traditional way all you need to do is slowly drip ice water over the sugar, and that's it! This burning the sugar cube is, wasteful, barbaric, asinine, and dangerous please don't do this it will ruin your absinthe

This is not the original way to make a absinthe drink you have to pour cold water over the sugar to louche the absinthe or with no sugar at all but the louche is the key point it is what makes the oils in the drink come out and gives it the complex flavor that absinthe is famous for!

Nová metoda pití absinthu. Vznikla po znovupovolení (1990) výroby a prodeje tohoto alkoholického produktu v Evropě. I když ne všude byl zakázán. Absinth se původně pije tak, že přes lžičku s cukrem se nechá překapat čistá ledová voda, kdy je jeden díl absintu a tři až pět dílů vody. Tím absinth změní barvu na zeleně mléčnou. Nicméně ať si to pije každý jak chce 🙂

No. I know this video is a couple of years old, but just......no. This is not the "original" way to prepare absinthe. This is so gimicky, it's painful. You'd impress people by preparing it how you're supposed to and tell an interesting fact about absinthe. That would be way cooler.
