This is not Romero's house, btw. LOL. The happy title screen with the ominous Doom music makes me crack up every time.

Huge respect to both John's - Romero & Carmack as well as other members of the ID SW team who helped creating these timeless masterpieces! Completely new approach to release source code was simply unheard in that time and even now, that's why these folks r revolutionary and their code lives on! Reason it's not being done almost at all today is because of deeply profit driven industry video games have become. Video game studios today r no longer community of pioneers and enthusiasts of game development who r more excited about doing something revolutionary than making profit with another FPS game. Things have not changed necessarily for good in everything when it comes to new revolutionary gameplay ideas and mechanisms and it's more less safe recycling to eliminate risks, however things r improving with the small studios and indie devs! Thx for making this excellent interview and for highlighting Sigil Doom addons, happy B to Doom and ID SW, all best!👏👍

Game developer rockstar to working class programmer who just happened to be working in a burgeoning innovative field and was real good at what he did but clearly does not deify himself as much as Romero probably did hearing the legend before meeting the slightly nervous man.

Should of been John Carmack that interviewed him from programmer to programmer, but you can feel the respect John Romero has for the guy, so much so for the legend that Nesir seems to be like you know I’m a regular guy you know, but I am good at what I do.

I think I hear "Disintegration Loops" in that change-over to a non-MIDI soundtrack. I haven‘t done the research ahead or even checked the audio credits below, but I think I know that haunting soundtrack when I hear it... especially since I used it in a video of my own.

This mod crosses the line from modding to full blown development. Like yeah it's technically a mod, and it's very clearly built right on top of Doom, but how much could you really argue that this isn't it's own unique experience? It gets even more Grey when almost all of the material presented is referential. A focused, very skillfully executed experience made up entirely of internet culture tossed in a horror blender and served up with enough Presentation! to make Megamind proud. And the way this delivered, as a Doom mod is crucial to telling the story it wants to tell. The gameplay they build off and the community accepted modding expectations that they undermine and surpass all lend to the story as much as the "journal" and other documents released with it.

My mom started a business with a programmer colleague from a previous job. He dropped a copy of doom off to me when i was 9 years old in 96 w/o my mom knowing. Lol. I had no idea how significant it was, obviously. Anyways flash forward 30 years I work for them now and he's still the programmer. But perhaps soon I will be filling his shoes.

As an original member of TeamTNT, seeing these two guys together for this interview was quite awesome. I spent countless hours in level design and playing Doom and Doom2. The impact ID software and these guys had on my life is hard to articulate. The day we (TeamTNT) found out that our mega wad would be purchased and released as part of Final Doom was truly surreal. Our intentions going into the project was to just release a quality 32 level wad, based on our true passion for this wonderful game, never expecting it to become a small part of this iconic phenomenon.

Hoo, boy. This is why I stopped playing 3D games. I've taken three visits to get to 45 minutes in, and I am beginning to feel the simulation sickness creep in. When I was a teen/young adult, I just powered through it. Now that I'm older and know there are plenty of games that don't trigger my simulation sickness, I don't subject myself to it anymore. Doom/Doom2 were especially bad about triggering it. Minecraft is even worse. The record is still held by an N64 game called "Space Station Silicon Valley". I'll come back another day and watch some more.
