Normally you rarely need to change the spark plugs on a fourstroke. But one thing that for sure kills them faster is not running the engine hot before turning it off.

I learned that the hard way. I bought a new (used) Yamaha. Was showing it off to my kids starting it and stopping it frequently while working on it in the shop. Until it wouldnt start anymore. Those quick start/stops fouled the plugs reall good. Just changed them today.
