Does anyone know what happened to the drive in cinema? I had no idea Lompoc existed until I saw a photo of the DIC from the 50's and 60's heyday, on the BBC website, and it piqued my interest.

I remember going to the drive in. Pretty sure it's a junk/recycling center now. I moved away in 1992, but still visit family often.

I believe it closed down in '97. The structure is still there (although it is looking rough these days). There was a movement to restore the drive in but the owners of the property shut it down. The same goes for the old Lompoc Theater that seems to have been slated for reconstruction but stalled.

It closed down almost 30 years ago. It’s owned by a guy name Christopher King and he tried to open it up several years ago but it didn’t work, it’s where the recycling center is now, I drive past it almost every single day.

I just came back from spending 3 days in Lompoc because of videos like this and their fake ass website that says they have field of flowers. They have a giant billboard and maps and brochures at the visitors center. But I asked the person behind the desk where they are and she told me they've been gone for several years and they grow them in South America now. The whole video other than the wine is fakeeeee! Don't go there it's expensive and nothing to do or see, it's just a high end watsonville!

There actually is flower fields and some things to do here. A lot of people come for wine tasting or sky diving.

I grew up in Lompoc in the 80's and 90's. The flower fields were amazing. I think they've been severely downsized over the years. This film certainly portrays Lompoc as a vacation destination... which it is NOT. lol

Beautiful Lompoc! A shame the residents tear it down; it really is a beautiful place off the beaten path. Like any city, it has its problems, but Lompoc is beautifully located with a charm all its own (don't let the residents fool you; most are open and welcoming and all have their favorite parts and 'secret locations' of Lompoc they'd love to share!).

What a great place, the mission is amazing. The golf is great, and the beach is cool. We will explore the wineries later..we will be back to see the flowers andall the city murals.
