When Great Britain was great! The last vestiges of our glorious past. Everyone is orderly and slim too, traffic is light to boot.

I love this roller coaster but it was so much better when it was painted like the senic railway. It hasn't got so much class now. If it was to go great Yarmouth would have had it.

Great Yarmouth certainly attracts a lower class of citizen now so the people back then weren't so small minded, they were correct

The East Anglian Film Archive has identified this film as being made in 1958. It was, apparently, the only year that Tommy Cooper performed a season in Great Yarmouth. The Benny Hill shot shows the date of his performance as Sunday 13th July which matches the 1958 calendar. Of course, it is possible that some of the shots in the film were taken in other years.

I believe this film was made in the early 60s judging by the cars. There is a Wolsely 1500 in one scene, and these were not produced until 1959, so the film could have ben made in 1959 at the earliest.

As a littlun I use to go here 1954 - early 60s it took most of the day by train ( 4 changes) finally get to vauxhall station and was met by a band of little lad's who would load your cases on a wooden cart & push it all the way to South denes caravan site for a tanner ( 6d) 😶

I was born in Norwich. Moved to Great Yarmouth in 1956 live right across the road from the model village, they were wonderful times thank you for this great little movie brought back some many fond memories I can smell the candy floss now. Hopefully after this lockdown. I’ll fly from Vancouver back to see Great Yarmouth and friends.

Hello Kevin, Thank you for your reply. Oh yes I forgot about that laughing sailor!!!! Maybe cause it was the way it would move. Never ventured into the Hippodrome. Just checking to see were the Kermadec Islands are , I just saw they (, your neck of the woods eh !! ) had a M7.4 earthquake . Yes likewise I hope to go back to Great Yarmouth too!

My god I forgot about the laughing policeman! Scared me too! I'm 45 now and we went from 1977 - 1994 ish . The snails are legendary and still going strong as are the buckets! My favourite little ride was the "red Barron" 10p sit and ride tri plane outside one of the arcades! Was gutted when I couldn't get in it any more! Many happy memories there and would love to go back, won't be same without mum n dad though, RIP both of you this Father's Day especially dad x

Loved the place as a kid. Vauxhall caravan park , the smell of chips and candy floss . The Rock shop and the big movies and various well known comedians and big bands in yarmouth . I actually flew from Johannesburg to the uk later on in life , and as it was summer ended up in Great yarmouth for a few days . I noticed the snail ride near the Britannia pier were still going . That particular ride must of been going on for years . But it still had all its magic did yarmouth . It's slightly different now I believe, several changes . But would love to go back . My what wonderful times .
