I am 55 and I have the trait, and trust me, you can have a mild crisis periodically. Headaches, dehydration, sudden aches, and fatigue. I supplement with a B Complex, Blackstrap Molasses, good hydration, and plenty of rest. Oxygen and green veggies are your friends. Someone had to help me realize that my blood needs some extra TLC daily. I also take Nattokinase.

Went on my first AE flight last week. I'm a 2A6 maintainer, but decided 3 weeks ago to cross train into 4N0 and work with our MDG DET1 group. The AE team was phenomenal, very professional and coordinated. It was awesome doing my part as a maintainer especially when the NIU No.3 mag plug flagged in the plane's error system and me and my crew chief got it fixed up in 30 min, but I'm beyond excited to become a medical airman. Love my Air Force!

We have pain too and it's true what you said, no one really know how the experience is carrying sickle cell trait. I made a video about how sickle cell trait does have symptoms and that everyone thinks it's fake. I'm a carrier of SCT myself as well and it is painful but everyone thinks we're delusional for having such symptoms. It doesn't even need to have a trigger to have such pain. I have it daily in my wrist, hands, feet, legs and even to the point where I can't walk for a moment. I've already done bloodwork and screening and it's still HbAS Sickle cell trait, no other version. People need to be aware that symptomatic SCT is a real thing. I made a video to spread awareness, since there are little to no videos proving this. #SickleCellTraitAwareness kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKCTqWeIgrt6pJY

This affects a lot of Pakistanis as well, due to old "cousin marriage" culture. Slowly people are understanding. I have Sickle Cell Trait and nearly blacked out at the gym during a Sickling crisis. I crash easily in any hot conditions or during fevers. Water doesn't help, high cool A/C air helps.

When I went through BMT in the early 2000s the USAF made me sign a waiver because I have sickle cell trait. Not sure if they're still doing that with new trainees at this point in time. also after signing said waiver I could never use it as an excuse if I got tired doing PT or any physical activities or if I was to perish my family could not sue the government either.

People with the trait have pains and health issues, but we have been programmed to think the trait has no symptoms, so we do not ever think to relate it to sct, we think it is something else

What a joke, you can do with food whatever you want but the classic PBnJ is perfectly fine as is. Regardless of the type of bread you use for it. What a waste of taxpayer's money. It is not the military job to teach you different ways to eat but to teach you how to fight a war and come back alive. WWG1WGA

"if you really want to make things simple"...ditch the sweet taterz, stick to bread, find any jelly where the fruit is the first ingredient (ingredients are listed in order of concentration on the label, like with the bread TSgt Poullard mentions, that was good advice). Just looking at the ingredients can help you avoid high doses of uhealthy ingredients. PB&J is supposed to be a quick easy recipe, not a slice veggies and bake recipe, if you're going to improve it it still needs to be quick and easy, plus dorms/barracks don't usually have stoves. Might want to go with a recipe all Amn can make.
