Bloomworks I think thinner strings (Gauges 8/21, 13/13, 26/9) might be ideal for musicians who have either an injury, lack of mobility, or lack of dexterity in their fretting hand.
@bloomworks2 ай бұрын
That sounds right. But a Tres is a short scale instrument and the strings don't feel as tight as they would on a full scale guitar. In any case, in today's world we can buy whatever gauges we like for our own choices! It's pretty cool.

Hi there Steve, I went and ordered your book yesterday in a music shop called Forsyths based in Manchester UK. I am looking forward to seeing any lessons you are doing on your channel as I am gonna use your book to help me create my second album, I have been fascinated with atonal music for a while now esp from hearing atonal music used in many Hammer Horror films. But your the first guitarist who has done a book to help others to create music in this way. Though I am based in the UK do you do 1-1 online teaching? What about creating a atonal music course where people can pay to get the entire course and work with the book with your videos?

I am converting a takamine, cutaway. Could use some do’s and don’t’s filling and drilling new bridge pin holes. And tools used.
@bloomworks3 жыл бұрын
Hello ErosRoy. So, the first advice I can give you is that you are much better off converting a short-scale guitar, like a 3/4 size. If you convert a full size, you won't be able to tune the high G string without it breaking. Taylor Baby guitars are the best, but you have to add a small piece of ebony to the bridge, by the 6th string hole. For filling the holes, I buy plain ebony or rosewood bridge pins, put one in the bridge, reach under and turn it while holding a pencil, so you know where to cut off the bottom of the pin. On top, I slice off the knob of the pin. I use a small luthier's vise and a jeweler's saw. Then I glue in the 4 middle bridge pins with tite-bond, then sand smooth on top. 80 grit, then 120, 330, 600, something like that. Don't fill in the two E-string holes because you will use them for the Tres. For re-drilling, I drill a small hole first, then get it close to what I need, then use a reamer. The spacing of the pairs should be 3mm between the 2 strings, at the nut and the bridge. Hope that helps!

Hi Steve, great video, I was wondering how you got to those chords?
@bloomworks5 жыл бұрын
Hi MRK, Well...there are different ideas for each of the chords. Measure 1, the chord is two scale tones added below the melody note. Measure 2, that's the chord from the Basic Chord Melody and you move the Root and 5th up a whole step, so that they are now the 9th and the 13th. Measure 3, scale tones below the melody, Measure 4, a basic shape with the 5th up a 1/2-step, etc. Some of the shapes come from the Modal version and I took the shape that had the melody on top. So you see, there are different systems being used at the same time. Hope that helps!!

Epoxy??? This is a re-break? When it breaks again, are you going to do another video?
@bloomworks6 жыл бұрын
No, it's not a re-break, but I use epoxy for headstocks because no-one wants it to be reversible. I've had too many problems gluing headstock breaks with Titebond. Too many came back.
@ozner19816 жыл бұрын
Hide or fish glue do the job and they are reversible, titebond is as strong as the other glues, i have seen more problems with epoxy repairs.... pva based glue works best when the wood is moist and many luthiers apply hide/pva while there is dust or is too dry, the wood will absorb the moist from glue making the repair weak. Thats what fails on my experience. The best is always to make sure you apply water with a brush just to make moist and let the wood open the pores and accept the glue and apply the pva or hide/animal glue, for the epoxy i gues just cleanup well moist let it dry and then use the epoxy, but epoxy are good to fill, they have their purposes but to a wood to wood repair i think animal or pva glue is best as is easier to clean, best to clamp, you dont meed a thick filler line. And usually are stronger than wood itself.
