Having worked in the auto transport industry, I would say that the sudden slowdown did not cause the damage. It didn't look that severe to me. While it may have been caused by this, I would say the cause was at the assembly plant with the crew that is in charge of loading the cars and trucks onto the railcars. To me it looks like they were not chained down properly with slack in the chains. If tied down properly, they would not have moved or broken loose as easily as they did. And then only one or two at most. From the force to bend the metal on the railcar, it would have had to be either improperly chained vehicles or a much greater train going into emergency. Any idea of the orgin of the train/auto racks?

When I saw what was poking through and had to check the date as they are the previous generation, GM K2 SUV's (Tahoe's, Suburban's, GMC Yukon's, one was a Denali nose I saw poking through, and Escalade's). So someone at the Arlington plant didn't chain them down properly.

I realize this might be a dumb question, but why aren't auto racks designed in such a way that you could rigidly bolt or fasten the frame of the vehicle to the frame of the hauler and a system where it can automatically uncouple upon being ordered to do so by a main control system?

Not CSXs fault. The people that loaded the vehicles didn't properly secure them

It's a good thing they caught that in time. If them automobiles would've come out of those railcars that could've lead to a train derailment

I’ve seen some many autorack trains. And I’ve also watched a lot online and I’ve never seen this much damage from an emergency stop.

Anytime you see one or two passenger cars on the rear of a freight train, it means top brass is inspecting the line.

I'm Slowly trying to get back into uploading some different videos. Going forward, the channel is more than likely going to focus around mining related content. I've been in college for the last 5 years perusing my degree in mining engineering. I'm currently working on my masters and eventually my PhD so that's eaten up most of my time.

So why would that happen, because it was loaded wrongly? Or driven too fast? Or just knackered old wagons that should have been on the scrap heap years ago?

I have been living by a very busy main line for over 25 years and with my experience of the UP train in 2001 right after the trade center bombings having a traction motor fly off, even that train took at least 30 seconds to stop and it was shorter than this one. The only way you are going to stop a train that fast at 25 to 30mph is either a train collision or a train hits a dead weight eighteen wheeler causing the train cars from behind to push extremely hard on the train. However, it usually takes at least a minimum of 6 hours to clean up the mess and this took 2 1/2 to 3 hours. So, I think I have the answer. The G forces on the tight radius curve is pushing back on the train as it stops causing the back half to push hard. I have also seen this similar since while on the mower. To the counterair, it is a great catch and my favorite was the local at the end with the fred on the lead unit.

What is wrong, how are the shifted? Is it the front part of the car is bowed out toward the car in front. The amtrak train which followed made a lot of noise with the clack clack kind of stuff. Is that caused by an opening in the track?

I would imagine millions of dollars worth of vehicles and they don’t tie them down? Or put adjustable across beans at bumpers height of each vehicles. Those 2 options seem cheaper than the insurance claims.
