Mobile mechanics working as you are showing here are not safe. From a health and safety point. No hi Vis. No cones. No markings to identify your tent. No signage. No beacons or chevrons on your van. Roadside repairs are and will always be a temporary measure until you get to a garage, or a safe off road place. Roads are highways and are not designed to be used for a workshop task. A driveway or off road area would be a suitable place for repair. This is the reason why car mechanics get so much grief, it's because there is no industry standard or guidelines on how to operate. As soon as you swap to the commercial or psv world, you would never be able to do the things that car boys do as it's a regulated industry and you can't get away with such a blaise approach to vehicle, personal and road safety. The caliper bracket must be thoroughly cleaned with wire brush or similar, and also clean the sliding pin holes with brake clean and a gun brush. Then the hardware for the pads must be replaced, and add some copper paste under the hardware. The caliper slide pins must be wiped off and greased up again and preferrably the rubber boots replaced aswell.

So what is the solution if one of the 4 glow plug sockets doesn’t light up and you haven’t unplugged one to show the light not working? I was getting a glow plug code and have 2 replaced under warranty already, but this time they’re saying the glow plug is fine and that my entire engine wiring harness needs to be replaced because they the wire is for the glow plugs are all part of the harness and cannot just be replaced. They quoted $700 usd for the harness, 9 hrs of labor, which put the total cost well over $2k. I’m more than capable of getting the wiring harness and swapping it out on my own if need be, but it seems crazy to me that you can’t just replace the problematic plug if that is indeed the case. Vehicle is a 2015 golf sportwagen tdi sel for reference.
@EllsAutoCareАй бұрын
If a light isn’t turning on despite the glow plug being fine, the issue is likely a broken wire. However, you probably won’t need to replace the entire harness; you can locate and repair the break in the wire.
