I have a colour calibration device that I have used successfully for many years; however, now the software which goes with it no longer works. I do a lot of professional video so I looked into buying a new device. Unfortunately the prices are really high, that’s why I consulted your video.

Hi Pavel!what a nice video you have made.Thanks for that.Just one question,I have a travel channel on youtube,can I use these footages there?Will it fall under copyright issue?Please help.
@PavelSupanenka4 күн бұрын
Policy states that you cannot use it for commercial use (=monetize), but most channels do it, of course by using just a fraction of the video. So it is a very gray area I would say....

Now i feel justified using my samsung s24 ultra to calibrate my TV! I was doing it because the colours looked good and looking up from my phone to my tv wouldn't change much in terms of visuals (as i do often). I didn't even realise the phone was actually scientifically accurate! 😅

Pavel thank you for a very informative and helpful video, and for sharing it with us :). I'm confused... can you use short clips from Google Earth Studio in KZbin videos that are monetized (or that may be monetized in the future)???
@PavelSupanenka8 күн бұрын
I personally would use, however not as the main piece of the video.
@md.erfanulbaree113710 күн бұрын
Can it be monetized?

I'm not sure why people do these kind of misleading videos. I checked out the website referenced in the video, and it actually says the iPhone 6 is terrible for whole gamut color. It finished last. Clearly NOT something you want to calibrate from. It's also from 2014.

It did its job for thousands of people.

Can I make a video and upload it on KZbin? Will it be monitized?
@PavelSupanenka12 күн бұрын
General rule - you cannot do that.
@Pilloledisaggezza_italy14 күн бұрын
On copyright for monetizable videos what is the situation?
@PavelSupanenka14 күн бұрын
Generally it’s not for a commercial use. However I don’t think it’s an issue to use it as a fraction of your video with appropriate attribution.

How to make a 1min video, 7 minutes
@PavelSupanenka17 күн бұрын
It’s possible to tell about a movie in 1 minute, but you still watch 90 min.
@chlowden18 күн бұрын
I'm sorry but your title is misleading. Monitor calibration is about reproducing specific colorspaces so that the numerical colour values in your computer correspond to the light emission of the display. You have chosen REC 709, which is one of the most reduced colourspaces around as your reference. It is smaller than SRGB and much smaller than many native portable device colourspaces. You are not really calibrating your monitor as that involves restituting numeric values to luminance values so that they are the same. That can only be done with the help of a colourmeter. I would suggest that you are normalizing your monitors to REC709, which is so close to SRGB that you probably won't notice the difference (except if you are working very saturated or contrasty source material). When colour grading, the technical ref monitor is technically calibrated to so that the color values correspond to the spec of the colourspace. Then there is another "home" monitor, to make sure that nothing weird is going, as you have described.

Google Earth Studio to create visuals for KZbin videos, but there are restrictions on its use. The imagery in Google Earth Studio is subject to Google’s licensing policies, which limit its usage to non-commercial purposes, including personal, educational, or research projects.

I have used sypder elite and still need to calibrate by using eyes due to the white balance. I also then buy apple approved 'used' 4k 24 inch monitor from LG, (but from different seller) and both monitor does not match each other especially on the white. so I have to do some simple calibraiton and changes on profile to make it match.

Anyone reading this in DEC 2024, this truly works. I just bought a new 32 Dell monitor (U3223QE) for editing photos and videos. I had an old Color Munki Color Calibrator that I was going to use to calibrate this monitor, but the software doesn't support MAC silicon (Just bought the new Mac mini M4 Pro). I really didn't wan't to spend $100 on a color calibrator because I just spent a lot of money to fully upgrade my entire workspace. So, I searched the tube and came across your video. After a few tries (3), I actually calibrated my monitor based on these tips. I didn't think it would work, but hot damn it did! I don't have a weird yellow tint the Dell monitor had and the reds now look like reds and not orange. Contrast looks great too. Thank you for these tips. The phone idea is brilliant; I used an iPhone 16 pro max. THANK YOU!
