I'm guessing this video is a bit old? Cause GameMaker's audio system has gotten a LOT better over the updates, adding stuff like audio busses, effects, better looping, etc. I'd give GM another chance, otherwise you're just complaining about stuff that was already addressed before.
@AQGamedev3 сағат бұрын
I moved away from GameMaker in the middle of 2021, and finished the project I'm talking about in this video in 2022 when none of these features existed yet. It's definitely gotten better, but for our use case the built in sound engine doesn't stack up to FMOD in either it's feature set, or how easy it is for my sound designer to use/iterate independently of me which is really important to our workflow! Beyond it's sound engine, having used Studio 2 from it's early betas up to the end of 2021, it had an incredibly rough time scaling to larger projects and was prone to frequent editor crashes/slowdowns across almost any device I could throw at it. Maybe it's gotten better, but at this point we've already built up a custom engine which is tailored for fast iteration on the very specific types of games we want to make :)

What made you migrate from MonoGame to FNA?
@AQGamedev3 сағат бұрын
Initially because FNA gave me slightly better performance. I ended up sticking with it as FNA was getting more regular fixes & maintenance, and because I share the core maintainers strong dislike of the XNA content pipeline!

Ive been working on an engine + rpg game built on .NET Maui. I've found the experience much easier than constantly searching for 'how to do _____,' so far, but I'm a Software Engineer by trade so its more natural for me to have to write complex software than the learn a new editor. I'm planning on publishing the code to some degree soon and might start a channel to do some dev logging.
@astty1074Ай бұрын
I did not get why not Godot? It's open source, you can add anything you see fit, majority of people don't do this but since you were already considering building an engine from scratch I figured this would also be a good solution. Not sure which is your end goal though.

Hey man, i am making a game engine in csharp aswell and this is a massive insporation for me. Mine uses python but the actual engien is made in csharp (so you use pygame in it) and im planning on adding js, lua and csharp. seeing this makes me really exited for mine

15:04 - You can do that (*you can do all of those things with ease in C#, I do all such things, only people are bad and suck) in C#, more than 6 months ago, and it's easy. How are you lost on that?

As another 30-something programmer (well technically "spatial analyst", but lets not let that get in the way of a good story), that writes Python and Nim in my day job, whilst *RE-LEARNING* ALL of the C# I forgot in my Bachelors Degree in my 20's.........., I laughed my arse off watching this, esp. the PyGame bit (sorry PyGame...). Extremely well put together, funny, and poignant. I also loved the XNA...MonoGame reference. Keep it up! Also, subscribed. ❤

This makes me glad I stayed with Godot. P.S. Godot has (almost) native C# and C++ support, you never noticed?
@kishirisu1268Ай бұрын
Godot is pile of dumb broken features. You don’t belive me, but make 100 game classes and will see all Godot hell.
@mostlime12195Ай бұрын
@kishirisu1268 It doesn't matter, though, because as long as it works for me, then it's fine. 3 years with Godot, and all feels great, I won't be switching anytime soon, especially with all the addons out there extending/fixing Godot's featurelist
