I know this is way ahead of where this is at, but ofc at some point it could be revealed that there are in fact people who live on the ground, some of which might mount dragons. This implies that they have a sort of gas mask solution that let's them breathe down there. It could also be through certain toxins that make them immune when ingested. But if you chose to do gas mask, it would be a great occasion to redesign gas masks, because they **never** look cool in fiction

What if, instead of breathing fire, these dragons were able to breath in the toxic gas during their dives and breath it back out in a concentrated stream at any potential threats

How do people get food in this world?
@vs3.146 ай бұрын
While I commend your drawing skills, you can't call them dragons just because it's your fantasy world though. That'd be like calling a teleportation skill "walking". That's not how a fantasy world building or the English language works to be honest. Creative freedom of that extent is reserved for creatures solely created by the author of that world. If someone writes a fantasy story about apocalyptic earth, and decides to call the human race as neaderthals just because it's their story, then that would be plain wrong.
@keirscott-schrueder56256 ай бұрын
Yes you can because dragons are a fictional creature, what you are saying would be correct for something that actually exists. For instance there are many definitions on what a dragon is as many cultures across the world have their own variation of a dragon. There’s no reason why he can’t make a different type of dragon.
@vs3.146 ай бұрын
@@keirscott-schrueder5625 And there's a reason why there's this thing we have developed, that's called a language. It's so that people don't randomly assign words. Teleportation doesn't exist. Neither does telekinesis or telepathy. And yet we have designated words for them. As a writer, sure you can call them whatever you like. But that would just be bad writing. Dragons and Wyverns are well defined words. With separate meaning. Make your race and name it however you wish. Otherwise enjoy reading a fantasy book where people mean telekinesis when they say teleportation.

@@keirscott-schrueder5625 Dragons have 4 legs. Wyverns 2. And Wyverns are lower level fantasy creatures. It's one of the main differences between them. Many mythologic descriptions vary on their shape and wings and such. Legs are a way to differentiate. Since Wyverns are western mythological creatures. There's a difference between fantasy writing and just randomly naming things the incorrect way. Being a writer means knowing the difference between original work and using predefined races in the correct manner.
@keirscott-schrueder56256 ай бұрын
@@vs3.14 so the definition of a dragon is dependant on the number of legs it has, and purely that physical characteristic alone? What about the dragons in game of thrones? And who even decided on this definition in the first place? GRRM said his dragons don't have four legs because its not realistic in terms of them flying, they are still dragons. what about eastern dragons (i know they have four legs but they are quite different in other ways)? I just find it strange that people try so hard to categorise something that isn't real...dragons can be whatever you want it to be (now, if you made them SUPER different ofc it's understandable people would be perplexed, changing the number of legs is not a super different change). There's a difference between randomly assigning words vs altering a troupe in a fictional setting.
@keirscott-schrueder56256 ай бұрын
@@vs3.14 Being a writer means using predefined races in the correct manner? you know that Tolkien based his races on myth and fairy tales right? Goblins and shit? The elves? Yeah, he took a few creative liberties. You are allowed to change things up, it fiction, just a weird way to restrict yourself when writing. Also, definitions, of ANYTHING can change overtime as we come to understand it means something different, based on how it is commonly used. That's how language evolves. Fantasy races are no different.

I think it would be cool if there was some form of robust rescue system, like a watch to find people stuck in clouds. I’d image it’s like trying to find hikers lost in snow, but on like a coast guard scale
@ObscurhaArcanis6 ай бұрын
Question if anything linked to the clouds slowly starts to sink through wouldn't that be the case for grappling hooks as well even if you were able to latch onto a cloud I fear by the time you were able to climb up in order to stand on the cloud the grappling hook would have slowly been working its way through the cloud as well falling back down?
