I am 8 months into my recovery from total Laryngectomy and currently waiting to recieve my first handsfree HME, can't wait to test it for the first time, I am also waiting for july 5th, to see if we are cancer free, its been a life changer, but it will be for the best. God Bless everyone.

Very interesting. Good for this man. Atos is a good company. The only problem with Atos, is that their products are designed for small to medium size people and NOT for big people. So doctors doing laryngectomies know this and if you are a big man....like a basket ball player or football player that is over 6 feet 2 225 pounds and have a big upper body.....your doctor will at best give you a breathing hole/stoma that at best is SLIGHTLY larger than the size of somebody half your size, to FIT Atos' "standardized" products to fit the stoma. So if you are a big man, you will STRUGGLE to breathe.....because you are forced to have a breathing hole virtually the same size as somebody who has lungs HALF your size. It's awful.

My father had an operation and is now having the laryngectomy stoma, the size of 8mm in diameter. He doesn't want to have the voice prosthesis installed. My question, based on the video posted, if he chooses to have the voice prosthesis installed, will the stoma has to be that size?

Is a relief that someone with a laryngectomy is able ton still talk. My father is about to get hes tomorrow 11/22/2023. Hes been soo depressed knowing hes going to sound like a robot and is really hard seen your father giving up.

There is a website called "The Laryngectomy Site" which provides easy access to information for anyone who will or has undergone a total laryngectomy, and their family and friends. I had my total laryngectomy on 6/01/23, I'll never give up. The talking is not so bad. I talk with a electro larynx. Life goes on and tell him to hang in there. Better days are coming. Hope he's doing good?
