One of my most favourite of tv shows of all time and no mistake. This nestled into my subconscious back in my teens and has never left. I have it on DVD and rewatching it as an older man it is interesting to see how my own reactions to it have changed over the decades. Some are superficial, such as a teenage boy I had a nascent crush on Jenny whilst the (supposedly) 'grown up' me preferred the capable and decisive Abby. Others are more substantial, such as thinking that Charles's idea to get power generation going again and establishing a social network of the settlements is a more sensible notion for the long term than Greg gave it credit for. A side note is that, possibly because of the characters of Greg and Charles, I actually became an engineer and spent three decades designing control systems for the National Grid. I'd love to say that the system they showed in the series was one of mine ... and it *is* {!} ... but my stuff didn't get commissioned until the 90's :D

A friend of mine took me to a gig at Liverpool philharmonic. This man came on and I must admit I thought "why does Tarquin think that this is something that I would like?" Tarquin being the aforementioned friend of mine. I left after 10 minutes because it was awful. I now realise if I had stayed that two things would of changed in my life forever. A) I would of had an understanding of Stewart's mastery of the comedy" call back" B) I would of married Tarquin and we'd now be living together forever. It's rare to benefit once, let alone twice from a single decision made at a comedy gig. I took the engagement ring back to the jewellery shop the day after I made my decision to walk away from Tarquin and Stewart. The jeweller asked me what happened and I explained it as best as I could. He gave me a full refund and two pear of cufflinks he thought were appropriate. Tarquin still goes to gigs by Stuart. I don't. Out of all the stand up comics I know of he's probably like 41st on the list.
