Do they have to be point down ! Or can they be laying down in a incubator ?
@esperago2 ай бұрын
I'm running into an issue where once they are about a month old, they begin attacking one another with death as the eventual result. Most people will quickly attribute this situation to lack of adequate space but it happens when I have just 3-4 birds in a 4x4 foot pen. I'm not sure what to do as so much time and effort has gone into breeding my pheasants this year and I'm hitting a brick wall at the month old stage. They still seem too little to put in with the adults, as the adults will probably attack them. Plus I'm in Canada and springtime days and nights can be quite cool. Any thoughts?

I am frustrated... Of all 25 eggs none was hatched. Now I am incubating 15 eggs. After 6 days, I found only one egg is developing. My pheasants are about 18 months old. One male and two females 😓😓. I set the temperature of 37.4 - 38 C, humidity 55%, turning every 6 hours for 6 seconds.

What do you set your temperature and humidity on for the first 21 days and then what do you set it at for hatching
@razzyhass3541 Жыл бұрын
For the first 2 weeks 50-55%, and third week is set to 60,%. High humidity will soften the egg shell to prevent the chicks from having trouble breaking the shell.

@sunriseharvestpheasantfarm91153 жыл бұрын
As long as you want them to. There isn't a particular time frame when they have to come off.
@landonsigouin89253 жыл бұрын
Is there anything you do or is there anything you avoid to keep the roosters tails long? Before I put blinders in mine pretty much all of the bird pecked out each other’s tail feather and now none of the birds have nice tails. But I hear that they’ll molt their tail feathers in the summer is that true?
@sunriseharvestpheasantfarm91153 жыл бұрын
You have to put the blinders on earlier next time at 6 weeks. Also space helps. I use no less then 10sqft per bird and that is still almost not enough room. Yes they will molt in the summer and in time will grow back their feathers
@@sunriseharvestpheasantfarm9115 hey dude got acouple more questions for ya. So I forgot that you have to leave eggs stored pointy end down. I got eggs from the 23rd 25th and 26th and they all had their pointed end up. Will they be ok if I put the pointed end down now? Their going in the incubator in about 3 days. 2nd question. Can I use rubbing alcohol to sanitize the eggs before incubation and eggs that have poo on them is there any point in sanitizing or are they no good
@sunriseharvestpheasantfarm91153 жыл бұрын
@@landonsigouin8925 At this point I wouldn't worry about the pointy end down. Yes they should be, but you want those eggs in the incubator no more than 7-10 days after they have been laid. So if you are putting them in the incubator in 3 days then...well...just don't be surprised if they are not fertile. If you do clean the eggs my last resort is just use soap and water. I personally wouldn't go the rubbing alcohol route its not necessary.

To be a pheasant is like being incarcerated for life and then be put on death row. you are criminals. put a blinder on yourself and see what it feels like and then go to death row.
@sunriseharvestpheasantfarm91153 жыл бұрын
I do respect your opinion but lets think about this now, criminals? Most animals that are raised for food experience your kind of analogy. So if you personally eat any kind of animal then or use any products contained from animals then shame on you for making a statement like that. You are pretty much disrespecting most farmers just making that comment. The blinders are actually helping the pheasants from hurting each other and can be taken off.

Why don't your pheasant chicks pick feathers or chop each other to blood - when they go so close? Sincerely, Frank Chr. also breeder of game in Denmark.
@sunriseharvestpheasantfarm91153 жыл бұрын
Oh they sometimes do. I move them in stages as they get older. I've been doing this for awhile and just look for signs when they are stressed. They get bored too so a head of lettuce can keep them busy as well

@@sunriseharvestpheasantfarm9115 Thanks for reply. Yes, here we also have the same challenges with pheasant chickens - here they go in flocks of 350 pieces. in large running farms with bottom vegetation so we use the method to cut the outermost part of the beak off at 4 weeks of age, and then they are exposed as 6-weeks in the wild.

What do you mean by the different racks as being week 1,2, and 3? And how can you incubate new eggs whilst hatching other eggs?
@sunriseharvestpheasantfarm91153 жыл бұрын
Eggs are set every week. The 1st tray is one week. The 2nd is the next week and the 3rd tray is the 3rd week. Then the hatcher is like your day 21 tray for when the eggs are in "lock down". Everything is on rotation if you are setting eggs every week. When you have eggs in the hatcher the ones that are not ready to hatch stay in the racks. That's the beauty of this incubator. You can have 4 actual separate weeks in the same incubator.

I just built an enameled steel coop out of a display, but I'm wondering about using steel water troughs and how cold the ground is, compared to rubber troughs or wood setups. That is, steel is a real passive absorber of COLD. Ninety in the room but what is the temp. on their ground where the birds actually are???

@@sunriseharvestpheasantfarm9115 I just gave my steel coop a dry run with old barred rock hens, not laying. I was surprised that the temperature and humidity matched outside. I expected moisture issues, but no. lots of ventilation. I have a 100 watt red light but it's really not needed. I'm going to use it as a quarantine for adult birds coming in.
