All you really need is just a length of 4X you can add a tippet if you want. 4X = 6lbs, and the tarpon fly record on that stuff is 140 lbs. So you should be able to go even finer when beating up on mountain brookies.

This isn't really Euro. Anglers in Penn have been doing this for decades, including the anglers George replaced in the college course. But in Penn, on some streams I fished, there are signs saying you can't have a mono system. So most of this stuff is just a way to fake a fly line so they can cheat the rules on the fly fishing only rivers, or sections. Not cool. If you get special sections for special techniques, and cheat the rules... On the other hand, early fly fishing was probably a lot like this...

Those clinch knots are not holding. Need a Davy knot, Orvis or Improved Davy knot.

George, this in my opinion is the best Kreelex streamer pattern out there. A pack of 10 Wapsi super jig heads is $9.99 🇨🇦 so I switched to tying them on White River Plated 1/32'' jigheads (Mustad). Like you mentioned, there's no need to get it all pretty as chances are we'll probably lose a few.

So basically spin/bait fishing methods are superior. Now we’re just drifting nymphs instead of wax worms.
