On that photo, Horace Silver looks just like his father looked on the cover of Song for My Father. I saw Horace Silver at my very first UC Berkeley Jazz Festival in 1967. The first song he played was Silver's Serenade and I was hooked from that moment on.

Pullen played with all his heart. And if someone is underrated, that would be him. His solo piano records are powerful as hell.
Fantastic song and performance! Nduduzo Makhathini's DownBeat Magazine Blindfold Test of 2023, where he greatly praised this beautiful Don Pullen song and performance, thankfully brought me here!

There's improvisation in the performance but so much conviction in the keystrokes🤎🎶. Dig🤌🏾👏🏾

I just heard this piece for the first time 9/15/23 on WDCB in Chicago. I'm 68+ years old and am embarressed to say I'm unfamiliar with Don's solo work. I DID see him several times in the mid-70s with the great Mingus group! This tune just slays me. Tomorrow I'll be looking for the CD.
