I am a big fan of compulsory military training , particularly for women . Women are taught to be helpless victims and after military training they suddenly see they are not helpless after all. I particularly remember an incident at a railway station where some women on the opposite platform were being harassed by a quite large group of drunken men. We ( the 3 of us ) were debating if we should cross over and take on the dozen or so football slobs when the 2 girls let fly and knocked 10 of them out flat and the two that ran away we managed to catch & hold till the police & ambulances turned up . The "girls" were serving naval staff who had just seen their friends off and were on their way home . Street violence happens because of the perception of one group of a superiority over another . IF there is a high chance of the others being skilled in hand to hand combat that perception is somewhat diminished . Ideally this should not be necessary but we forget than humans are just another species of pack animals and we behave accordingly , although we know better .
