for me I feel like I'm still in the phase where i was ten years ago when i started playing magic. idk if its a phase or it's the style i like playing. it's the "i just want to pull off this one very specific thing or do cool stuff" phase

7:29 hey, I have both of these cards! I remember playing an Oversimplify with an activated Alchemist's Refuge, and I remember the player attacking me saying "wait you don't have Cyclonic Rift do you?" (we re budget players that's why he said that) I felt kinda disgusting but it was also a really cool gotcha moment now I'm thinking of putting Oversimplify back into my deck together with cutpurse

Saddly I don't. I went through my phone a few weeks ago and deleted all of the old decks I had saved, to make space. If people are interested, it might be worth going through the old shorts and flushing out a full decklist again. Stay tuned! 🙂

Here's a fun wincon for you..... Watchful radstag + dreadfeast demon. Couple of caveats: 1) The combo requires a couple of disposable creatures to feed to the demon(s) to get your stag population off the ground. But once you have 4 or more stags it won't matter if the demons start snacking on them. 2) the speed of the combo depends on your access to populate effects: if you don't populate then it's pretty slow, if you can populate a few times then two turn cycles will usually give you an army beyond the wet dreams of most scute swarm players. I run this in a "xavier sal, infested captain" deck. At the end of the turn that the demon is played you usually have a small clutch of creatures. By the end of your next turn you usually have stags numbering in the high double to low triple digits. If you untap again with that army you can usually k.o. the entire table. (Ofc xavier sal has very easy access to token copying. That does help it to go off fast(er)) I'd rate it average to risky in vulnerability, and average in speed. Sweepers ruin your day, but point removal has a hard time stopping it (either has to be instant on the turn that you start going for it, or need multiple pieces to take out either all your stags or all your demons).

Scornful Egotist was usable in limited and in Standard back in the day. In the same exact set, there was a theme that checked for the highest converted mana cost among your permanents, including both a burn spell and a counterspell. With his morph ability, Scornful Egotist allowed you to have an 8 mana permanent faster than instant speed on turn 4, which meant that you could deal 8 damage or counter a spell unless its controller paid 8 mana. Paying only 4 mana for an 8 cost was relevant. I laughed so hard though when you rated him

Never would've thought of Empyreal Archangel to put in new Atraxa, but it's actually quite clever. Definitely wouldn't be the main wincon, but as a backup or just something to stall until the real wincon comes online, it sounds pretty fun. I'd still count it as a wincon, and I agree with your chart, but wincon or not it wouldn't be the focus of the deck. Just found your channel today, but it already looks great. Your videos stay interesting with minimal editing or visual flair (though please do keep up with keeping the corners of cards transparent), which honestly helps for readability. Excited to see what's next!

I don't think Rebbec is a great commander, since it gives your artifact protection from cmc, Protection means it cannot be targeted, that includes your artifact tokens by your name changing equipment, thus, it stifles your own win condition

I have an entirely colorless artifact deck called "The Machine" that is just a bunch of these sort of soft win cons stacked on top of each other. It's got all of the modules from Kaladesh as well as the stations from Mirrodin, Mishra's self-replicator, and a bunch of modular and charge counter shenanigans. The deck is scarily effective because, while it's not necessarily doing anything game breaking most of the time, the amount of recursion and generically good artifact synergies lets it just chug along until it out values the table or hits one of its incredibly janky infinite combos.

@ardinhelme687
@ardinhelme687 17 күн бұрын
@VinceOfAllTrades sure, though I should warn you that this thing is riddled with pet cards. As I said, it is scarily effective, but that's in my meta, which I wouldn't exactly call competitive. I love this deck, but I just want to be clear that it was entirely concepted as a home for janky soft win cons like the station and module cycles, I'm sure there are far better pure colorless artifact decks out there. I should also say that this is the list I originally concepted the deck with so it is both slightly idealized as well as out of date, I never actually got my hands on a copy of Urza's Saga for example, and I have since swapped Traxos for Urza's Battlethopter as the commander and am toying with swapping again to the newly desparked Karn, but I haven't gotten around to it.Anyways, with that heavy grain of salt, here's the list: www.mtgvault.com/matanui606/decks/the-machine/

yea this codie deck is scratching my jank itch forsure, one thing ima do from my experience playing codie other ways, I will use all the bounce lands since your main goal is to get to 4 mana to cast codie. Having all these bounce lands really helps smooth out your land drops and lets u keep greedier hands!

One problem is that the cut the tethers targets spirits, a creature type known for being at tempo decks centered around flash creatures, so even if you would play against spirit decks, they will prob not tap themselves out so they can pay for the mana if they want to

A wee little editing tip -- On Scryfall, rather than right clicking and saving the image, use the "download PNG" option near the bottom of the page. You'll get an image with transparent corners, rather than the little white or black corners on the cards. Sweet vids!

So I read the deck list and still don't get how it's a 7.5 or a threat to anyone? Feels like you'd always be treading water to get more lands, even with the several cards that get you lands if your opponents control more. What am I missing?!
@StragetyMTG
@StragetyMTG 26 күн бұрын
The deck has a bulky amount of lands so hitting land drops is less of an issue, plus there's enough land recursion from the graveyard to be pulling lands if you need. As far as appearing as a threat, the deck is designed in such a way that its threat assessment level is low (funny enough, your own testimony is credence to this). At the same time, the deck makes use of very value removal (boardwipes, Orin's Thunder, etc.) as a means of resource denial. If my opponents have 12 lands and I have 6, I let them play out their hand. Then, when I cast Akroma's Vengence or Perilous Vault they lose access to everything they just played. If you've ever been in a game where you had 13 lands and nothing to do for the turn, then you understand how having a surplus of lands doesn't usually translate directly to being an actual threat. With all that graveyard recursion as well, any utility land can be repeatedly used each turn. And on top of that, you can pick and choose which land TO reuse every turn. A blast zone every turn can be VERY oppressive, not to mention another Dark Depths whenever you want, or a Command Beacon so I never have to pay commander tax again. As far as wincons go, I generally win with Call for Unity or just a Dark Depths' Merit Lage token. Basalt Monolith goes infinite with Zirda, but I didn't feel the need to throw in a way to translate that mana into damage. If you wanted to though, you certainly could. You could swing out with a huge army using Goblin Trenches, or just keep making your Zirda huge and indestructible with Tyrite Sanctum, or do 20 damage to each opponent when Cavalier of Flame dies, there's a whole lot that can be done. It's almost like every card is an ingredient, and you're the chef just cooking something unique and deadly every game.
@StragetyMTG
@StragetyMTG 26 күн бұрын
I also forgot to mention that lands are notoriously hard to interrupt. You can't counterspell someone for playing a land for turn. And without a Stifle effect, you can't stop the activated abilities of my lands from activating. I love Blast Zone for this reason. You have one turn before I blow up whatever permanent I want, so long as I can pay the price (which is reduced by 2 if Zirda is out).
