There should be more information in my Jam Spreading Myth video at kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGakhperfqllhpY and the page n my site at orchardoo.com/jam.

Someone ordered a Steak Wellington ? A glass of water from a well ? Well?
@LarryDors
@LarryDors 18 күн бұрын
The only glass of water from a well I could find is in the first episode of The Secret of Crickley Hall (2012) and that doesn't qualify as it's a TV series not a film. There are plenty of steaks in films, but not a steak wellington. A Douglas Sirk steak (Pulp Fiction), a Salisbury steak (Licorice Pizza, Monsters University, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry), Kansas City steaks (The Wild One), Kangaroo steak (Crocodile Dundee), a Porterhouse steak (Man on the Moon), butterfly steak (Valley of the Dolls) or a Wagyu steak (The Gentlemen). I gave up looking after that! 😄

In all 8 adverts they are adverting products, companies or services, but if you mean the talktofrank one at 2:20, that was the new name for the National Drugs Helpline started in 2003 and is still running. N.B. whilst a majority of the 'huggies' are white, the girl at the end who falls in the water isn't.

As I remember he smeared jam and cigarette ash on both a CD and a vinyl record. After wiping both only the CD would play.
@LarryDors
@LarryDors Ай бұрын
Have you watched the video before making your comment? 1) Jam was never used on a compact disc, only honey (and coffee). 2) Cigarette ash is a new suggestion to me. The original clip was before the general ban on smoking being shown in programs, but I doubt TW would encourage their presenters to smoke so they could use the ash to help their demonstration. 3) If you smeared anything on a vinyl record chances are you would damage the grooves, so no one would put jam or ash on a vinyl disc and expect it to play afterwards!
@mda5003
@mda5003 Ай бұрын
@@LarryDors You seem to have missed my point. Yes, I did watch the video but my recollection was with jam and cigarette ash irrespective of whatever programme it was shown on - I did not even mention TW (but lots of people think that it was). And no, someone smoking was not shown - simply ash in an ash tray! Lastly, it is of course pretty obvious that spreading jam and ash on a vinyl record would destroy it but that was not the point. The point was to show the difference between a vinyl record and a CD: the CD still played perfectly whilst the vinyl record was binned.
@LarryDors
@LarryDors Ай бұрын
Sorry, I do not know where you are based, but in the UK, Tomorrow's World was the first programme to demonstrate the CD (see my clip at kzbin.info/www/bejne/mH7TYqOJi92ip9k). Many people were convinced jam was used, but that happended on a music programme called the Oxford Road Show in November 1982 by the DJ Peter Powell. I have yet to find a full copy of that episode. Breakfast TV used honey and coffee (see kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJqyd4KAjNmsfdU) and obviously other programmes covered the technology. Can you remember the programme you saw it on? Searching for CD and Ash only comes up with results of the 1992 Northern Irish rock band Ash! 😄

@@LarryDors Unfortunately, I cannot remember the programme. I know many still seem to think it was TW but it appears that was debunked several years ago. I really wish I knew but I was convinced it was shown on television as we had no internet back in the 1980s - but then maybe it was all just a dream after all!

@LarryDors 3 ай бұрын
The BBC Micro had three mono music channels plus one noise channel. I used a technique that combined one music channel with the noise channel to get a bass sound, so I couldm't add any percussive sounds using noise. As for a 'more accurate' version, well I wouldn't normally offer help at finding the competition (in 1985) but the BBC and Master Computer Public Domain Library at 8bs.com/catalogue/bbc.htm has many disc images of music (mine included). You will need an BBC Emulator to play them, but information is on the site.
