Georgie Best, Denis Law, Bobby Charlton, Ivan Mauger and many other Manchester sportsmen were all my heros. Never had to ever look further than my home town to find a world champion. That meant a lot to a kid growing up in the slums. The ace of clubs adorned my dark red exercise books.

That 'gold bike' is now on permanent display at the Canterbury Museum, in his home town of Christchurch, New Zealand. I've seen it many times now - a great tribute to an amazing sportsman. RIP Ivan.

I’m so sorry to hear about the death of Ivan manger I only met him once he came to Perry Barr when he opened up the new season of speedway at Perrry Barr home of the Birmingham Brummies in 2007. My condolences to his family and friends. RIP.

I grew up playing with Ivan's kid's in the late 60's. We all lived on the same Avenue..Oakfield Ave , Chorlton, Manchester. I remember playing in their house. My parent's even took phone call's for him as they did not even have a phone. Think Ivan was giving driving lessons..I remember a white Zepher . What Ivan went on to achieve is very, very special. I was around those old Speedway bike's as a young kid age 5. lived my life around race bike's and car's ever since..rub's off on you. Ivan I'm off to Bell Vue this Saturday with my son's to watch the Aces. I'm 54 now. I found some old photo's the other day of me age 5 stood with Debbie and I think Graham Coombes daughter. Hope your well My parent's ..Dennis and Dorothy..remember us ? Lost my Dad 20 year's ago..I know he used to repair your steel boot !

It was amazing to see Ullevi Stadium packed for the '77 final, even in horrid weather. Last years (2013) GP there looked to have perhaps only a thousand or so spectators.

I BEAT YOUR record at trallee speedway canberra australia ..by half a second ...your time was 17.5 seconds and i passed the australian champion kevin paton as we both lapped the field at 17.5 seconds and lapped every other rider ..back in the 1970's .. i did it because i read your book on racing and perfecting ballance and did your exersises on my bike as well as adding a few ideas i got from usa flat track racing.. front wheel slides and perfected sliding the front wheel as well ..skeatesy1

The bike (and other memorabilia) was purchased by the Canterbury Museum from Ivan's familiy, in his home town of Christchurch New Zealand in 2016, for $1.7 million. I'm not sure it's ever going to go on the market now, but will forever reside on public display in the museum. I've seen it many times now, visiting the museum on a yearly basis, since it first went on display in the museum in 2007.
