Are there any scientific studies specifically about solanine and human toxicity? I see everyone warning green potatoes are toxic, yet grocery stores regularly sell them without lawsuits and I've eaten my share. Obviously cutting away the most green areas but I would love to know the very specific details. I'm struggling to hear your video. Thank you so much!!
@IgorandFrankenstein22 күн бұрын
Yes. There are studies. The easiest way to find information about this sort of thing is to put the chemical of interest + pubchem into your search engine of choice. Go to the right side of the pubchem page and click on Toxicity. This should give you an entire section on studies of the given chemical and human toxicity. It is not the most comprehensive approach but it is a quick and easy method.

Another question I have, how white vinegar is industrially made?
@IgorandFrankenstein29 күн бұрын
At an industrial level this is made more by chemistry than biology. White vinegar is just acetic acid (4-5%) diluted with 95-96% water. This acetic acid is made with one of 3 chemical processes (methanol carbonylation, acetylaldehyde oxidation and ethylene oxidation). They may also use pure alcohol (eg vodka) and use the microbes from vinegar mother to do so biologically. Most white vinegar uses the synthesis approach. Non white vinegar such as balsamic, red wine, white wine, malt, etc are nearly always biological. They use some sort of vinegar mother or other source of acetobacter to turn the basic liquid such as red wine into vinegar. The alcohol in this is made into acetic acid and the other flavours give it the unique vinegar taste.

On one hand we want to tout our own channel but there are much better, more comprehensive and reliable sources of information. The basics you need are any kind of sugar rich liquid that can be fermented. Vinegar mother. A second bottle for storage. We also strongly encourage doing it yourself. Nothing will beat experience. All the theoretical knowledge won't help if you find you can't put into practice for some reason such as heat, cold, location, etc. Books we like: Homebrewed Vinegar: by Kirsten Shockey (Good for general vinegar) Brewing sake by William Auld (Good for making rice wine vinegar)

Salt actually ISN'T at all unhealthy, and you require a relatively substantial amount in order to achieve a variety of your body's functions properly. It's like any other substance - moderation is a wonderful thing! Great presentation!😊
@IgorandFrankensteinАй бұрын
Thank you for your supportive comment. Perhaps we should have been more explicit. People reduce salt intake particularly due to hypertension (high blood pressure). They do so to reduce blood pressure through lower sodium levels and more. This is important with every 2mmHg increase in blood increasing the risk of a heart attack, stroke, etc considerably. While hypertensive people have reason to do so some people take the same general view of salt and try to reduce consumption overall without reason and when not consuming highly processed food. In this latter group you are right; there is no need to reduce sodium.

No. The oldest reference we can find to asclepius is 700BCE. The oldest Jewish presence in Greece is 300BCE. Therefore the god figure asclepius predates this by about 400 years or possibly more. Also Asclepius actually healed people not make a fancy pole and hoped for better health. Granted some crazy treatments but it was at least somewhat systematic and effective.

Technically all humans are already vending machine of different kinds. You put food and in poop comes out. Unprotected sex and 9 months later a baby comes out. There are other examples too. Diversifying humans beyond this might be hard biologically. If you start looking at bio-engineering and cyborgs or prosthetics than things are much easier.

I could be very wrong but I understood that brewing and bread making in ancient Egypt were two sides of the same coin. Bakers were ipso facto brewers and beer was more or less, liquid bread. The suggestion that "brewers" might have "experimented" by adding adjuncts smacks (to me) of imposing current thinking onto a very different and alien culture. You baked bread with fruits and herbs and with spices. Bread (and /or beer) was a major source of nutrition in a society that was agricultural and not fundamentally based on hunting for sustenance.
@IgorandFrankenstein2 ай бұрын
It is entirely probable that there were bakers who did this if they used the same process as more modern brewers and bakers. That is using brewery krausen as the primary yeast source for baking. The challenge is that bread was a staple so making day to day bread with fruit and nuts would be unlikely. Adding extra ingredients like this would raise the cost and therefore lower probability of a daily staple being available. Making it with extra ingredients would be like a cake in the modern sense; an irregular treat. Beer with the same would be a treat too or for the wealthy.
