Interestingly, the original documentary has little focus on America, but instead urges viewers to look at their own situation, their own country's situation. But this ironic interpretation aims to present a negative view of America, rather than looking inwards. Has anything really changed? All that being said, perhaps the message of the original is less relevant today. In any case, I enjoyed re-seeing the China that I first saw, in 1988.

I get your point about the original. A little context on this one, it was for a class project. The assignment was how perceptions of China's perceptions of itself vis-a-vi the West have changed in the last 30 years.
