The first 11 marks in this video are either as good or almost as good as any mark you could ever see...11...in a row...one man...and there is great variety among them also. Also none of these benefit from the camera work and picture quality of today. What a legend.

Perhaps the final match in afl history where a player will kick ten goals in a losing side.

Thank you Tony for your efforts and joy you brought to me and the AFL football community. I saw you live many times, you were and will always be one of the greats. Thank you

Tony Modra with Jason Dunstall, unbeatable. Tony modra best leap and hands I have ever seen. God only knows why Blighty left him out of the Grand final. But in my opinion the best ever crows forward player to be left out. Modra is one of the players that brought so much joy to AFL football. Magic hands, the best…

Simmo with the square-up. Surely he'd have known what was was coming afterwards. West started it, but it's Simmo''s hit that's remembered.

You see the trainer there when young tried to get into Carey he was his boxing coach. Carey would have destroyed young and barnard with one punch. The more you got into Carey the better he played.

That left for snap from the pocket is the greatest goal kicked from that pocket. Its the hardest spot at the mcg to score from. Carey kicked it on his opposite foot.

Great to see these highlights of Tony Modra.( plus some of his Adelaide team mates of that era) He was definitely one of the best full forwards of his day. His ability to leap and take marks the way he did showed pretty exceptional football skill & athleticism. It was a shame he couldn't play in the Crows '96 & 97 premerships due to injury. Thanks for the memories. Onya Mods!

Left foot no problem, one handed marks This is the best game ive ever seen at afl level from an individual Absolute masterclass

Carey was such a gun. North walked a lot taller with him in the side

Bombers always had the wood over North during this period. Too fast, too strong all over the field.
@philhogan56235 ай бұрын
The only player that consistently matched it with The Duck was Glen Jakovich. Otherwise, either Carey was too big & strong, or if they found someone else as big & strong Carey was too fast & skillful.

We don't see this fast moving game anymore. Such a shame.

Skipped work to get to this game. Most dominant performance id seen. Bombers won though haha

Tony Modra, scraping the bottom of the barrel. Met him at the Salamanca markets in Hobart in 2012 standing in queue at a cofee shop. Tried to cut the line in front of everyone, total flog.

I remember being at this game as a friend had a free ticket. I only went cos i wanted Woodville to beat Port after they beat my team Norwood the week before. Was amazing to see and I hadn't seen the match again til now.

I was there as well as a Port Fan. Whilst it was tough being beaten by Woodville everyone kind of hoped they would go all the way. After being cellar dwellers for so long it would of been great to see Woodville go top but the fairytale didn't eventuate. There was a real feeling of destiny going around the comp that they could take it out....a bit like Westies in 1983 under King Kerly.

Collingwood won by 63 points, through the brillance of gavin brown that day Kicked 5.6 and a couple out of bounce And played on the wing in the 3rd quarter It set up collingwood for the premiership in 1990

There were so many finals and big games where Carey played like this. He just never 'went missing'. As a Premiership Captain, team leader and dominant big game player there has been none better.

Greg Phillips was 32 when this game was played (64 now). As I'm typing this his daughter Erin, who was only 6 at the time, is now 38. Older than her dad was then. Time flies.....

I remember after this game there were reports in the media that Ports glory days were behind them, that after their run in the late 80s, their star was on the wane. Little did they know...... Port Adelaide would win 6 of the next 8 SANFL premierships until 1999, only missing out in 1993 (beaten Preliminary Finalist), and 1997 when they lost to Norwood in the Grand Final.
@Holden30811 ай бұрын
Westies were the best performed team through the 1991 Finals ... until the Grand Final where we probably won the fist fights, but we let that rule our game from the 2nd quarter and North Adelaide by playing some very good football in their own right made us pay big time. Pity. The way we played through the 2nd half of the year we were definitely a Premiership chance in 1991. We'd have to wait until 2015 to win a Grand Final, losing twice in the meantime (2003 to Centrals and 2012 to Norwood).

2:17 best grab of his career. He rode Martyn's shoulders and turned backwards. He wanted the goal badly. Much better that the 1993 grab.

They take a player off the field just after he has scored a goal, probably one of the dumbest decisions a coach could make.
